Does Memphis deserve a number 1 seed?

In my opinion Memphis doesn't deserve a 1 seed. Even after Uconn, Pitt, and Oklahoma losing. They play in C-USA which should tell you something since they are 58-0 or something like that. Their out of conference schedule was horrid.

So the question is. Do they deserve a 1 seed or not?

Its tough.. but they'll probably end up as a #2. Its hard to justify Oklahoma as a #1 aswell now tho. Im thinking its going to be UNC, Pitt, UConn & Louisville. But MSU and Memphis are both very deserving aswell.

Last year their out of conference schedule was much tougher.

That is a terrible out of conference schedule. Out of 5 "legit" tough games they won 2 of them. Legit is in " " because Gonzaga isn't a top tier team and Tennessee is decent. With that they don't deserve a 1 seed.

Pitt doesnt deserve a number one spot over Memphis every Pitt game Ive seen they play sloppy and down right terrible. However State chances at a #1 seed will go out the door either tomorrow or Sunday when either Ohio St. or Illini pulls the upset

Pitt plays in the toughest conference in the country and finished 2nd. They can be inconsistent but any team can.

I would have no problem with Memphis as a 1 seed if they beefed up their schedule. Instead they play more of a "cupcake" schedule. Like I said they only had 5 "legit" out of conference games.

A first round exit? Are you serious? If they don't get in foul trouble they can make the championship game. They play in the Big East and had 3 losses. THE BIG EAST where all 16 teams can win. How many teams in C-USA can win? That's right, zero.

I don't think you watch enough college basketball. Their best player is not always in foul trouble. Memphis would be lucky to be top 5 in the Big East. Pitt is a guaranteed number 1 because they beat Uconn twice and split with Louisville.

You have given no evidence of why Memphis should be a 1 seed besides their record but I disproved that with their horrific out of conference schedule.

I hope Pitt loses and if they get a set of refs who call fouls they will because they are a bunch of hackers (see games 1 and 2 vs Uconn).

This isn't a conversation about the Big East's chances at the NC. This is a conversation about Memphis deserving a 1 seed or not.

Just because Pitt lost to a WV team who has been playing outstanding lately doesn't mean they don't deserve a 1 seed. I can say the same thing for Memphis losing to Georgetown and Syracuse who both lost to Pitt.

I hate Pitt as much as anyone, but they won't be a first-round exit. They do this every year in March (save last year when the won the BE tourney) when they lose in the Big East tourney with a talented team and then lose in one of the first three rounds of the NCAA tournament. First of all, there's no way a 16 or 15 seed is beating them even if Blair gets into foul trouble. If they get a bad matchup with a strong 7-10 seed, then they might go out in the second, but no way in hell in the first. As for you saying they aren't a 'good team', they were second in the Big East, one of the top two conferences in America, so I guess the phrase 'good team' only means the ACC champion and Big East champion.

Kinda on topic, us talking about Pitt, but does DeJuan Blair remind anyone else of Charles Barkley other than me? He's undersized, but big and strong and a great rebounder and finisher around the hoop.

I don't get how you could EVER give UConn and Pitt a number 1 seed over Louisville???? Louisville was the regular season Big East Champ and could be the postseason champ later today! If UConn or Pitt get a 1 seed then Louisville has to as well.

As for Memphis I believe they deserve a #1 seed.

back on topic I don't think Memphis deserves a 1 seed simply because they haven't proven they can beat any elite teams, while all of the other contenders definitely have.

Not to say they aren't at the same talent level as the elite Big East teams, they just haven't proven they are yet.


Also, being a 1 seed as opposed to a 2 seed really isn't that big of a deal, its a first round bye either way, and your second round game isn't necessarily tougher depending on the match up.

Anyways,, it's looking like the number one's will be Louisville, Memphis and then two of UNC, Duke and Pitt. I think if Duke wins the ACC Championship they get a 1 seed.

Louisville will be the number one overall seed no matter how you look at it tho
