There obviously wasn't enough camera footage to judge fairly... But shouldn't there have been a giant pool of blood. How does a bone that important in such a heavily trafficked area for blood end up with such a 'clean' break.
Medically it's confusing.

The injury looked terrible, but I think that he'll be back next year. Broken bones tend to be easier to fix than ligaments, I hope he recovers.

Not open (compound) fractures though. Particularly in this area. The open fracture exposes the interior bone to air and anything else, thus leaving a much higher chance for deep bone infection. In addition, this bone also aligns the knee joint and ankle joints and even with it being reset with a rod it will never return to how nature and the surrounding muscles/ligs/tends came to know each other. A considerable concern for an athlete as even micrometers off can lead to further re injury. He most likely tore muscle, ligs, nerves and blood vessels too. He'll probably need skin grafts for the wound as well. Probably has a 50% chance of ever playing again, maybe less.

God bless the kid for how he is handling it. Wish him well. It was just a freak break, the stars aligned at the wrong angle, speed, weight distribution. Usually these breaks only happen by extreme opposing forces (think Joe Theismann being hit, or a car hitting a pedestrian)

The end of these games is an absolute shit show by both players and refs. Trische definitely didn't deserve the charge call and Hardaway traveled on that last rebound. Whatever, Michigan made the title game so thats cool.

Even when CBS adds the possession arrow graphic to the scoreboard, for whatever reason I never pay attention to who currently has the possession arrow, so when the ref makes the obligatory jump ball call, there is always a 2-3 second dramatic delay for me...jump ball...ITS LOUISVILLE'S BALL!!! The fact that I can't ever remember who has the arrow adds to randomness of the jump ball.

Jump ball is the second worst call in college basketball behind player control foul.

You'd cry too if you played 40 minutes and had three times more fouls than points.

I initially hated the jump ball call in the Louisville game, mainly because it ruined a potential dramatic ending with WSU done 3 with 10 seconds left. The original TV angle was the worst to see the play...CBS later showed a baseline view, which IMO the Louisville guy clearly had the ball and the ref made the right call.

Triche takes an extra step every time he travels to the basket. Usually he cradles the ball in one arm, shoves the defender with the other arm while making a pained expression on his face, then takes an extra step to put up a wild shot. I don't think the Michigan player was set, but you could see that charge call coming from a mile away.

I agree that the officials have a big impact on the game. Its interesting to me that out of all the Big10 teams in the tourney, Michigan ended up making the final. They are the team whose game is least dependent on fouling/foul calls. They play a conservative defense, and their offense is designed around passing and making outside shots. Indiana's offense is entirely dependent on getting foul calls...they are a terrible passing and shooting team. When Zeller didn't get his obligatory 15-20 free throws against Syracuse, Indiana was lost. So many times in the Big10 season Zeller could just get the ball in the paint and wait until the refs blew the whistle on his behalf. It was maddening to watch. Wisconsin's defense is similar to the 1990's NY Knicks, where if they foul you 4 times on every play, the refs can't possibly call every one. They get away with quite a bit in the Big10, but always flame out in the NCAA's because the officials are different.

Hard to say if it would've changed the outcome but that foul being called on Burke's block was a travesty. Coulda been Michigans ball down 3 instead Ville goes up 5 and never looks back.

Officiating was shit once again, but that was as good of a title game as you could get. Lots of fun.
