Donovan McNabb says he is a HOF'er. Agree?

Free-agent quarterback Donovan McNabb had a one-word reply when asked recently if he believes he should be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame -- "Absolutely."





"See, one thing that people don't realize -- I never played the game to make it to the Hall of Fame. I played the game because I love it," McNabb, a 13-year veteran, told Fox Sports. "I played the game to win. I'm a competitor. When I step out on the field, I feel like I'm the best player on the field."

McNabb has yet to find a job since being waived last season by Minnesota after a 1-5 start. McNabb spent the 2010 season with the Washington Redskins, where he was benched twice. The team finished 6-10, and McNabb later said that coach Mike Shanahan "misused" him.

"Even these last two years, when people may look at it and say, 'Oh, he's done, or whatever.' I'm 34, 35 years old, but still, I played at the pinnacle, I played at the highest level of my career. I played there," McNabb told Fox Sports. "And I would vote for myself for the Hall of Fame."




McNabb, who turned 35 in November, has not won a Super Bowl ring and says fans don't look at him as a Hall of Fame-caliber player for that reason.

"Peyton (Manning) never won the big game until he won the Super Bowl finally. Dan Marino never won the big game. But does that mean his career is a failure? No. Not at all," McNabb told Fox Sports. "When you sit and look at the numbers -- and that's what it is when it comes to the Hall of Fame -- my numbers are better than Jim Kelly, better than Troy Aikman, better than a lot of guys in the Hall of Fame, but the one thing they do have is a Super Bowl."

In 167 career games, McNabb has completed 59 percent of his 5,374 pass attempts for 37,276 yards and 234 touchdowns. By comparison, Aikman threw for 32,942 yards and 165 TDs but won three Super Bowl rings.

Kelly, who played in four Super Bowls but won none, has career numbers that closely align with McNabb's -- 35,467 yards passing and 237 touchdowns.

I like Donovan McNabb and respect his accomplishments as a starting QB in the NFL....but Hall of Fame?!?! :homieslol:

I was a huge McNabb fan when he was in Philly. He was the entire Philadelphia Eagles offense from 2000-2003. I don't think he get's enough credit for the success during that time with the Eagles considering what he had to work with. But the problem is from 2004 until he left, he had weapons on offense but he was either injured or he just simply underachieved.

Overall, I don't think his career is HOF worthy. He had success, but he didn't win a Super Bowl and he had very average passing stats vs the contemporaries of his era

Especially following two turrrrrrrrrrible stints at other clubs after being traded away from the one they played long-term at. I mean really, dude was traded away so the squad could go with a guy that was only a few years younger, was known through his career for being an awful passer, and spent 2 years in the pokey (and is still under probation).

you're right, the Kevin Kolb era sucked so bad in Philly I forgot about that one year in between LOL Not really going much better for him in Arizona either!

Its pretty bad throwing a pick in a key situation. But what does it say when youre too out of shape to make it back to the LOS.

We've beaten this to death. There is no way McNabb is a hall of fame player. Not a chance.

They should do a Big Brother style reality show on NFL Network to fill some time, instead of showing Total Access on a never ending loop. The premise would be McNabb, Ken Anderson, Phil Simms, Boomer Esiason, Daryle Lamonica, Ken Stabler, Jim Plunkett, Rich Gannon, and Tommy Kramer live in the house, and the last man standing goes to the HOF.

Kelly: 35,467 yards, 237 TD passes, 84.4 QB rating, four consecutive SB appearances (160 games)

McNabb: 37,099 yards, 234 TD passes, 85.5 QB rating, one SB appearance (167 games)

McNabb's Eagles only made it to the Super Bowl once, while Kelly's made it four straight times. Both didn't win. Their stats are similar, but McNabb's numbers came from a pass-happy offense in a time that favored the passer. I think McNabb could get in with time, but it isn't going to be anything immediate.

Bottom line: McNabb is saying this to keep his name in the mind of everyone, just like the RGIII and Redskins comments. He still wants to play and doesn't want people to forget it.

Kelly put up similar numbers to the other top QB's in his era.

McNabb played half of his career in conditions where the defense was not allowed to breath on WR's, and had numbers well below the elite QB's of his era (particularly completion percentage and QB Rating).

McNabb is a geek for making that stat comparison.

FWIW, i'm not completely sold on Kelly being in the HOF. But i'm not offended by it. I'd be offended by McNabb. I never thought for him as a hall of famer. He fails the eye test and the hard stat test.
