We're kinda desperate for a winner up here. Early in the season everyone was talking about how improved the niners were, and then that talk fizzled out towards the end of the year because improvement didnt turn into wins. Crabtree has got it though, and now with the stupid contract nonsense is behind him, he will have a great year. Singletary finally fixed Vernon Davis too, the guy actually looks and plays like a professional now.
The thing is the 9ers really need a named quarterback, and consistency in the offensive system is going to be great but I just dont think Alex Smith is going to be anything better than a Trent Dilfer kinda guy who at best can keep it together and burn you for a handful of deep passes a game. with the type of talent, and the years left on them at the skill positions a quarterback that wasnt a reclamation project or unproven rookie would just produce gangbusters numbers.
Simply put, San Francisco needs to stop talking themselves into quarterbacks and get one that does the talking with his play. The team would be 11-5 + by virtue of the division alone, a first rounder and considerations for a guy with 3-4 years left in the tank would be 3-4 years of solid playoff runs. It would be worth the sacrifice. No Derek Andersons, No David Carrs, but jump on the next Cutler who is just a guy who needs a little more love. we'd stroke his ego here. If the guy took the 9ers into the playoffs, he could even be as big of a prick as Cutler and the city would love him unabashedly anyway for giving us a winner. it would work.
