Dust 514 is an upcoming free-to-play FPS for the PS3 set in the EVE Online universe. There's no official release date yet, but the closed beta for EVE players has been going for just over a week.

Another shooter to add to the list I suppose.

I dig the interconnectivity between EVE Online and this game (with the way you can pretty much do anything in the world, even betray your allies for a better payout) but I'm leary of the costs beyond the "free-to-play" model.

If you can grind for better guns and gear like Battlefield without having to fork over dough for the best shit, I'm all for it.

I just don't want to get smoked because some kid got a hold of his Dad's Visa so he can get the $50 top-of-the-line sniper rifle.

From what I understand, they're designing it so everything can be bought with the ISK (in-game currency) you earn as well as paying with real money.

It's Free to Play so there is no reason to not at least try it. I for one am excited for it because I have a few friends that have been playing Eve for years so they are pumped to rain down some contracts for Dust.

like knubb says, its free so its worth trying. but a shooter is a shooter is a shooter. i think the idea of building a game thats built inside of another existing game is great.

So... this officially dropped today on PSN.

I can say without a doubt that I'm stunned with the amount of OCD-esque detail this "game" has.

I stress the word game because of the amount of data you have to sift through just to create a character (Clone, in this case), get your shit properly set up and then go out into the big, bad universe to get rape-trained by those who've played this longer than anyone legally has the right to.

I thought Defiance was scary enough to jump into with the janky interface they're running as far as weapon/attachment combos and gear sets for PvE and PvP but this?
