Warner makes a good point. The Reds can obviously do better then Dusty at manager, but they could also go backwards here. There's a lot of incompetent managers in MLB, and the reds could easily hire one. Look around at the thirty guys who had jobs this year, how many do you really consider good managers? When I think about most of these guys, I think, "yeah he sucks."
I've always seen manager as a short term gig. Let a new guy come in and light a fire under the players' ass. Once he gets stale, and the bullpen management becomes questionable, the late game decisions start to fail, get rid of him. Easy scapegoat, fans do it all the time, no reason for GMs to be any different.
