Fertitta Brothers Coordinate Merger with Rival Promotion Strikeforce

Las Vegas, NV ---In news that is sure to shock many MMA fans across the globe - the UFC and Strikeforce have decided to combine the two promotions together in a merger and form UFC-Strikeforce Entertainment, LLC.

"This is a very exciting time for the sport of mixed martial arts," UFC executive Lorenzo Fertitta said at the press-conference to announce the deal.

While many fans collect their thoughts, there are many questions to be answered. For example, given the war-of-words between Dana White and Scott Coker and their respective position within each organization, who is going to run this new promotion?

"Dana White will be our President and Head of Operations," Fertitta said. "He'll be responsible for the booking, signing of new talent, development of new talent and all other personnel related issues."

Where does that leave Scott Coker?

"Scott is going to be running the business end. He'll be the President and Head of Brand Development." Fertitta explained.

While leadership roles have been sorted out, per Fertitta, the new promotion will only be new in name.

"There is no need for us to re-develop a brand and drop either name. That is why we went with 'UFC-Strikeforce Entertainment'," Fertitta said.

Tasked with personnel issues, new President Dana White announced that all titles will be vacated and the respective title-holder from each weight-class, for each promotion, will fight to unify the belt and have a clear-cut champion.

"For example, we'll have Brock [Lesnar] and [Alistair] Overeem fight for the heavyweight title." White said.

While many fans may still be attempting to wrap their head around this major announcement, they should note that the new UFC-Strikeforce Entertainment does not plan on suspending operations. Current broadcast deals will be honored with Showtime, CBS and Spike - as well as PPV broadcasts.

The only potential hurdle Dana White may be facing is the deal executed between Strikeforce and M-1 Global for the services of Fedor Emelianenko. However, White shed some light on the situation.

"Our attorney's are looking at the situation," White said. "Right now, it looks like the deal M-1 reached with Scott [Coker] and Strikeforce is not enforceable and is now void. So...we're working on a new offer to keep Fedor in the fold with UFC-Strikeforce."

UFC-Strikeforce Entertainment plans on a November 20th event for it's first broadcast. Dana White assured mmajunkie.com that the fight card would be complete by the end of the week and that most of it has been agreed upon.

Jacare Souza took the fight to Anderson Silva and brought it to the ground. Silva attempted to keep the fight standing up and caught Souza in the clinch on more than one occasion. However, Souza was able to stun the former UFC champ and score a TKO win in the 2nd round.

Lyoto "The Dragon" Machida def. Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal by Guilliotine submission in 1st round
The fight didn't last long as Machida looked like his old self with quick strikes and constant movement before locking in a guilliotine choke while up against the cage. It was an impressive, and decisive, win for Machida who is looking to put himself back at the top of a rather loaded light heavyweight division.

Dan Cormier def. Kimbo Slice by arm triangle in 1st round
Cormier won this fight impressively. In fact, Cormier didn't even land a single strike and still won via an overmatched Slice. Cormier took a few shots before shooting for a takedown and allowing his wrestling to take over. Slice showed no improvement in his ground game as Cormier quickly took side control and locked in a arm triangle to secure the victory.

Dan Hardy def. Marius Zaromskis by Majority Decisioin
Hardy scored a rather controversial majority decision victory over Marius Zaromskis. Zaromskis worked his kickboxing while Hardy stood and banged with his boxing. However, Zaromskis was more impressive on the ground and scored multiple takedowns. In the end though, the two judges scored in favor of Hardy and one scored it a draw resulting in the majority decision for Hardy.

Fedor's Back!

Las Vegas, NV --- Russian heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko is back in the states and has recently agreed to a four-fight deal with UFC-Strikeforce Entertainment, LLC.

Emelianenko had multiple suitors including japanese promotion DREAM. However, the allure to compete against the world's best drew Fedor back.

"He's likely going to get a shot at the title in his first few fights," UFC-Strikeforce President Dana White said.

There is strong indication that Fedor will get first-crack at a rematch with Fabricio Werdum and, if successful, take on the winner of the Overeem v Lesnar matchup that is yet to be scheduled.

Fedor has indicated that this will be his last go-round in the fight game before retiring and heading back home to Russia.

"I want to compete with the best and push myself," Emelianenko said. "I also want to make one more run at the title."

Rumors are that UFC-Strikeforce President Dana White wants to get Fedor into the fold ASAP - possibly with a match at UFC-Strikeforce 3 or 4.

Still working on the UFC-Strikeforce 2 card. Haven't really touched the game or my spreadsheet tonight to get something in motion. I do know though, that Lesnar V Overeem will be the Main Event at UFC-SF 2. Fedor V Werdum II is set for UFC-SF 3 so that the winner of the Fedor Werdum fight will likely have first crack at the Lesnar/Overeem winner. If anyone wants to provide an idea for fights, I'm open to it. Like I said way back when - I am new to MMA. Didn't start following the sport till UFC 94 St-Pierre vs Penn caught my attention. So, only a few years into it, I'm not an expert on every fighter and each discipline. I still learn new things watching the broadcasts, so, if there is any matchup that looks silly early on or you would like to see let me know. However, I will say that going forward, matchups will be determined by results in this fictitious environment. Therefore, if someone begins to dominate or slide, I won't take into account name recognition - only results.

Overeem attempted the guilliotine in the first round, however, Brock was able to escape it. Lesnar scored multiple takedowns of Overeem and looked to avoid the stand-up game with the Muay Thai artist. Lesnar left himself vulnerable on the double-leg takedown and Overeem locked in the choke almost immediately.

Tito Ortiz def. Chuck Liddell by TKO in the 3rd round
Tito finally scored a victory over Chuck Liddell in their third, and what is likely to be final bout. Tito really dominated the entire fight both on the ground and in the stand-up game. Liddell showed his age in this fight and it may be his last.

Tyron Woodley def. Paul Daley by TKO in the 1st round
Wrestler Tyron Woodley dominated Paul Daley by scoring an early takedown and literally landing two hammer-fists while in the mount to secure the victory. The fight only lasted 32 seconds. With performances like that, Woodley can expect to move up the Welterweight division rather quickly.

Kron Gracie def. Joachim Hansen via Kimura in the 1st round
Kron Gracie was making his MMA debut against veteran Joachim Hansen. Gracie showed the typical style for submission fighting that is his namesake. Gracie immediately went for the submission once getting into side-control after a successful takedown attempt. Due to the duration of the bout, it is likely Gracie will be back in the cage very soon.

Fedor stuns Werdum late in the fight and records a knockout win

This was an absolute battle. Fedor was able to escape from a rear naked choke attempt in the 2nd round and Werdum was able to stay afloat despite being rocked very early in the first round.

Jake Shields def. Josh Koscheck via TKO in 1st round
Koscheck's ground skills looked like those of an amateur compared to Jake Shields. Shields recorded an immediate takedown and was able to pass Koscheck's guard to posture up in full mount. Shields used some old fashioned ground-and-pound and finished the fight in roughly three minutes

Scott Smith def. Ryan Bader via TKO in 1st round
Not sure what happened here. Smith landed a single strike early in the fight and it rocked Bader and he had no ability to even cover up or protect himself. The fight was over before you knew it.

Hayato Sakurai def. Satoru Kitaoka via unanimous decision
This fight was a pleasure to watch if you enjoy a solid ground performance. Both fighters put on a clinic in grappling and spent most of the match on the mat instead of in the stand-up game. Sakurai scored a 29-28 unanimous decision victory.

Yeah the SF fighters have been faring a bit better. This game is so unpredictable though. I can beat someone like Anderson Silva with relative ease and get dominated in my next match. I am still having a hard time grasping the ground game - which really sucks because I love using wrestlers and BJJ fighters. In my career, I'm a BJJ guy and I coasted through the first league I was in. Next I go to some league in England and I can't do shit with takedowns or sprawling, etc.

The absolute best part of this project though is the Fighter Share feature. It allows me to basically add guys, and delete guys, as I see fit. For example, I can retire Chuck if I want and just delete his character and DL someone new off the Fighter Share. It really makes this project more fun and flexible in terms of storylines, adding fighters, etc.

This was an absolute battle. Both guys could've won this fight, but, the leg kicks Rua landed slowed down Cavalcante's pace and Shogun finally scored a knockdown in the 5th round before finishing the fight with a flurry of punches. FIGHT OF THE NIGHT!!!

Eddie Alvarez def. BJ Penn via KO in 3rd round
Eddie Alvarez was just too fast for BJ Penn. His also outboxed Penn who looked...slow at times. Alvarez likely becomes the #1 contender for the lightweight title and earns a shot at the winner of the Frankie Edgar and Gilbert Melendez bout.

Jason Miller def. Tim Kennedy via Kimura submission in 2nd round
Kennedy scored two takedowns early in the first round surprising Miller. Miller kept his distance and chose his spots to strike. Showing tremendous patience throughout the first round, Miller eventually shot for a takedown in the second round, moved to side control and locked in the Kimura for the submission victory.

Roger Gracie def. Kevin Randleman via Kimura submission in 2nd round
Chalk another submission win up for the Gracie family legacy. This time Roger Gracie was doing the damage as he out-manuevered wreslter Kevin Randleman on the ground and effortlessly locked in a Kimura for the submission victory.

Sorry. He put up a good fight, but, he fell just short. I would say he is entitled to an immediate rematch, but, I would've only done it had it gone to decision. I am thinking the #1 contender right now is Rashad Evans or Lyoto Machida.

Thanks for following. Good to have you and Rob reading. Feel free to send suggestions at any time. As for Aoki and Penn, it can happen, but, now it'll have to wait due to Penn's KO loss. IRL, I am thinking he would have at least a 60 day suspension before training could begin. I'm thinking it would be 5-6 cards before I could get Penn v Aoki set-up.
