Eagles trade 1st round pick for Jason Peters

The Eagles have acquired Pro Bowl left tackle Jason Peters from the Bills for the 28th overall pick in next week's draft, FOXSports.com has learned.

Buffalo will also receive a second-day pick in this year's draft, as well as a late-round pick in the 2010 draft.

They just worked out Jason Smith yesterday...so, I guess they decided not to attempt a huge move up (rumor was with your boys, Hass) and took Peters. Peters is a good player. Lets up a few too many sacks to be considered elite, but he is better then anyone Philly could have gotten at that point.

Its a decent trade. Better than trading for Boldin IMHO. We get a 27 LT who's pro bowl caliber, and a potential HOFer. Hopefully this guarantees the protection for Eagles QBs for the forseeable future. Now its time to draft a RB.

how? They get a a player who is probably better than any OL that they could of drafted with the 28th pick and they still got another first round pick too, A lot better than them trying to trade for ST Louis' 1st round pick.

Good move for the Eagles. Peters is a great OL and they should be ok with Curtis, Jackson, and Westbrook. It's really McNabb that sucks balls. Maybe with Peters blocking for him he'll gain confidence and stop complaining to the media and actually use the great weapons he has in Curtis, Jackson, and Westbrook instead of folding under the pressure.

I strongly disagree....McNabb is EASILY a top 10 QB in the league, and has been for years...everybody has slumps, and he has had his fare share of them. He has gone to what 5 NFC championships? His TD to Int ratio is better then almost every QB active right now, he is very solid, and has only had a number 1 receiver ONE year of his entire career.

Anyways...great pick up, with a pick from Carolina last year which was used on Jeff Otah. Stacy Andrews and Jason Peters should do great holding down the tackle positions, this o-line really is a great one, with a lot of really big bodies up front. I'm curious to see what Philly does with their pick now, possibly a big body WR or Chris Wells...they may just trade out again if nobody they like is available.

As for Buffalo, Peters didn't want to play there, and they have some young talent at tackle, I dont think they will need to draft one with their first pick, but i feel if somebody like Eben Britton is available at 28 they'll definately pick him there. Most likely go DE early. Solid trade for both teams.

I dont really understand why the Bills would do this.. if they're looking to compete right away, as it looks like they are, it would've been smart to keep the anchor to your offensive line.

They gave up a 28 for a Pro Bowl player.
No offensive tackle they got at 28 or 21, for that matter, would be even close to Peters.
Peters had a bit of an off year last season because of the holdout. That won't be an issue this year.

How old was he? I didn't know they still had rights to him even though he was a FA.. I thought he just wanted to re-negotiate his contract or something.

I don't think WR is that big a deal for the Birds. Admittedly, we don't have a franchise WR, but the Birds have enough talent at the position ... and opponents can't focus on any one guy.

IMO, the Birds must address RB in round one. Westbrook is 30 this year and injury-prone.

Picking a WR at 21 would just be a luxury pick.

Would I give that 21 up for Boldin? Maybe. He is a damn fine receiver.

Not really , Peters was refusing to sign with them . Now they get a 1st round pick instead of nothing . They obviously didnt want to lose a pro bowl tackle for a 1st rounder but he was just gonna sit out and leave in FA eventually anyways. (Whenever his contract was up)

Peters wouldnt go to meetings , played sloppy with very little effort last year and basicly wasnt a team player . Bills didnt have a lot of choice apart from giving him a new contract which clearly they didnt think was worth it.

If theres one place in the NFL you cant afford to have a hole in its Tackle. Buffalo now has a glaring hole.
