Im confused. Why would the Lesnar Fedor fight be pushed right away. Yet a Fedor/Rogers fight be built up ?

uh, because Brock has a huge fan base and the UFC marketing behing it while Strikeforce needs to build up Fedor and Rogers

I would have prefered Fedor/Randy first instead of Fedor/Brock, but I see the logic behind it

Im lookin forward to seeing a Fedor fight sometime soon, all i see is his highlights on youtube. I was hoping he would get on UFC so it would be easier but i can handle this too.

I also wouldve like to see Brock fight someone that could match up with him. Cain is the only guy i see in the UFC that maybe could take him, just because of his strong wrestling and he proved he could take a punch against Kongo.

I would have preferred to see Fedor get a deal done with the UFC. However, I don't blame Dana White for not wanting to co-promote. Especially since it is such a broad term. It could mean a number of things and can include giving M-1 some decision making power. If it were just banners and logos on shorts, I don't see what the problem would be. That's why I tend to think M-1 has a different definition of "co-promoting" than what Dana had in mind.

Either way, I am excited to see Fedor stay in the US and fight with Strikeforce. Especially since some of the fights will be on Showtime. I would have guessed that his first fight may have been against Rogers or Overeem, but, some of the points made earlier hold a lot of merit. I could see Fedor getting a few warm-ups to pad his record and hype a fight with Rogers or Overeem in the future.

Lesnar just did 1.72M ppv buys, and Lesnar/Fedor is by far the biggest fight (including boxing) that can be put together in the world right now. If you can put together the best fight, you dont squander it, you do it.

Rogers has no name, so Fedor/Rogers would bomb termendously if it happened right away. At the same time, he's the only guy Fedor can draw serious money with IMO with the proper build.

It's risky, because Rogers has really done nothing but beat a bunch of stiffs, and KO a punch drunk, weak chinned AA. He can lose to anyone half way decent, and blow the potential fight.

But this is MMA, new fights spring up all the time. Someone off the radar could emerge.

Fedor/M-1 wanted to co-promote, those were there demands, Dana does not co-promote, so Fedor/M-1 went to Strikeforce who has always co-promoted and signed

which ones have the tougher competition?

I've always been under the impression Pride Fighting was the tops, UFC was next, and then the lowly ones like King of the Ring or whatever, and strike force were somewhat towards the bottom.

is this true? or are they all more equal?

Depends on the weight classes, but generally UFC/WEC has the most depth and the best fighters.

PRIDE no longer exists. When it did, the debates were long and boring, but most former PRIDE fighters who came over to the UFC struggled. Take that for what it's worth.

In today's game, the "major league" promotions are:

UFC/WEC/Zuffa
Strikeforce
DREAM

After that, you have Sengoku, K1/Hero's, and even DEEP, which are usually deep in one or two weight classes and are generally conisdered "major league" fighting (DEEP would probably be closer to AAA in quality, in keeping up with baseball referances).

Everything else is clearly minor league, ranging in quality from well established local promotions like King Of The Cage (AA), to sleazy underground & unsanctioned shows.

If you are talking about overall talent, then, IMO, it would have to be the UFC. But I'm really liking the Strikeforce org.

Dana can assume the contracts of both fighters, out of spite, if he wishes, as per the Affliction "merger".

Both have non exclusive deals, something Dana isnt interested in at all, so if that's the route he takes, you know it's just a dick move.

But now that Strikeforce has Fedor, the gloves are off. Expect more of this.

Pride was bought by the UFC and W2B isnt really correct about ex-pride guys, Rampage was a pride guy, Anderson was also, Shogun is getting a title shot, Nog won the belt, Cro Cop was a big dissappointment and Wand is just old, but still puts on good fights

UFC has the most talent easily, has the 205, 185 and 170 divisions locked

WEC has the best 145 and 135ers and probably puts on the best shows of anyone

With Strikeofrce getting Fedor they moved into the number 2 spot

DREAM has the best LW talent, but Sengoku is making a nice push with adding Ishi (Judo Gold Medalist) and possibly Barnett

Also, KOTC was bought by EliteXC who went out of business and than Strikeforce came in and got most of there talent

If I had to rank them, it would be

1. UFC
2. Strikeforce
3. DREAM
4. Sengoku

but Sengoku could jump DREAM if DREAMs TV contract falls thru

Babalu is a Strikeforce fighter and Mousasi was on loan from DREAM, not sure if the UFC has this power, but its a dick move like W2B said and really screws the fans over if they can stop the fight, plus those 2 will lose pay again
