The don't do PPV's, they are not on a cable channel like spike, they are on a premium pay channel, Strikeforce it self just puts on fights, Showtime pays them for content, it is not even set up like the UFC currently

They don't go out and challenge the UFC like Affliction did for PPV buys, they don't challenge them and constantly call them out like EliteXC did, the only thing they do the similar is bid on fighters

Strikeforce is doing there own thing right now, leave the WWF vs WCW angle alone and to the Meltzer type people

UFC is the #1 MMA company in the world. Strikeforce is #2.

They are competitors.

By distancing their selves from the UFC it creates the perception that they are second rate. The more they show and talk with people who are associated with the UFC the better their image and standing within the MMA world becomes. In a sense it enhances their prestige.

If Strikeforce talks up Anderson Silva, Brock Lesnar, whomever, it does absolutely nothing for their own prestige.

They can come off second rate when talking about the UFC, it's a slippery slope.

Better off just sticking to doing you and making yourself appear as the premiere group.

Exactly. So for those viewers who only know the UFC, the way you peak their interest is to somehow place recognizable names and faces in front of them. SF needs to make that sort of connect and not distance themselves from the only thing most MMA fans know or respect.

It's similar to endorsements. Most casual consumers will rush to the store the second you associate someone they recognize with a particular product. That product/company's image is instantly boosted.

And I'm not suggesting some childish ban on mentioning the letters UFC or saying names of UFC fighters. Mentioning them in passing is unavoidable and not damaging. But a third party producing tv for you spending valuable tv time essentially hyping a UFC fight is counter productive when that time could be used to push the SF product. That is why Dana won't give up his production, he doesn't nedd Jim Lampley calling a Brock fight and pontificating on whether Fedor can beat him, and he doesn't need HBO interviewing Gina Carano on his show.

The UFC is in a position to do that, SF is not.

Mentioning Anderson Silva in Feijao's corner doesnt hurt, at all, Frank and Mauro saying for 10 seconds that And1's kick was great during a 2 hour broadcast, did not hurt at all, showing Cain in the crowd doesnt hurt 1 bit, it probably helps more because thats what they want, to be linked

They just pulled 2 of there best ratings back to back, noe there prelims are on HDNet, they're growing and this is how they're doing it

The best thing Strikeforce can do, is use the 4-fight deal and make it the ultimate come back story.

Whether its build him up back up to culminate into a big fight or you just throw him in with avenging BOREdum or Uberbum and hope he starts wrecking criggas in his climb back up...there is money in having a Fedor "come back" story.
