Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Josh Freeman is underrated

The debate in the 2009 NFL Draft centered around Matt Stafford and Mark Sanchez. Josh Freeman was an afterthought then, and still is now. Unfortunately.

Stafford has been good when healthy, which hasn't been very often. Will he or won't he (be good, be great, lead the Lions to the promise land) cannot be answered honestly one way or another yet. He is lagging behind though.

Sanchez is the media darling. He plays in New York. He dates models. His team advanced to the AFC Title Game last year. All eyes on him.

Truth is, eyes should be split north and south down to Tampa Bay where Freeman is orchastrating quite the franchise turnaround. As a part-time starter last year, Freeman started 9 games and went 3-6. His rookie woes were equal to that of Sanchez, with a 10-18 TD-INT ratio. He did his work off broadway however.

Both quarterbacks have played remarkably better in their second seasons. If you believed everything the national media said though, you'd think Sanchez was all-pro, and well, they just don't talk about Freeman so you'd know nothing about him.

In 2010, Sanchez has completed 185-of-336 of his passes (55.1 percent) for 2,306 yards with 15 touchdowns and seven interceptions and a QB rating of 82.8.

In 2010, Freeman has completed 177-of-290 passes (61 percent) for 2,099 yards with 14 touchdowns, five interceptions and a QB rating of 92.

Freeman is a more accurate quarterback with a six-percent better completion percentage, two less interceptions and a QB rating nearly 10 points higher than Sanchez’s.

Sanchez is only averaging 3.0 yards per carry with 54 yards on 18 runs. Freeman has been the NFL’s best running quarterback not named Mike Vick, by rushing for 236 yards on 39 carries, an average of 6.1 yards per carry.

Mark Sanchez has led the Jets to three straight comeback wins. Terrific work. Freeman has 4 this year, and 7 already in his young career though.

The NY Jets are 8-2. The Tampa Bay Bucs are 7-3. Edge to Sanchez there, especially against a more difficult schedule. But consider degree of difficulty if you will.

New York has LT2 and Shonn Greene. Tampa Bay has a beat up Cadillac and an undrafted rookie in LeGarrett Blount.

The Jets throw to Santonio Holmes, Braylon Edwards, Jerricho Cotchery, and Dustin Keller. The Bucs start two rookie wide recievers, have an undrafted reciever in the slot, and have KW2 at tight end.

The Jets have one of the best defenses in pro football. The Bucs have one of the worst statistically.

People thought the Jets would be good, even great, even Super Bowl-bound. Tampa Bay was thought to be competing for the top pick in the draft in 2011.

Josh Freeman deserves a TON of the credit for the good things happening in Tampa right now. Sanchez does in NY too. They both are playing very well, and both could end up being great.

The point is simply that Josh Franchise is as good, if not better than Mark Sanchize. If you were drafting, having seen what we've seen, who would you pick?

I think I'd go with the 6'6", 245lb guy that is a good runner over the 6'2", 225lb guy that can move around, but not really beat you with his feet.

You are hating and not being objective. You are quick to point out the Bucs "weak" schedule but completely disregard the fact that Sanchez was put into a perfect situation. Everything he needed to succeed was put in place for him. He is already on a Superbowl contender much like Ben Rothlisberger was when he came into the league. Unless you are fucking Ryan Leaf there is no way you should come into that situation and completely shit the bed. They could have put Jason Campbell on that team and still be successful.

On the flipside Freeman is the sole reason for our turn around. He was thrown onto a team that completely cleaned house from the front office to the veterans on the team and told to turn chicken shit to chicken salad and thats exactly what he has done.

Before this season how many games did you have us winning and how well did you think Freeman was going to do? I bet you (and every "expert") had us being 1-9, 2-8....if that, at this point of the season.

The vast majority of our success is placed squarely on how well Freeman has performed this year. We dont have a top 10 defense, no HOF running back, no top 5 offensive line, no 3 head monster at WR while Sanchez does.

We have a bunch of rookies and 2nd year players on offense. Our offensive line consist(ed) of 3 1st year starters. Jeremy Zuttah is a LG that was forced in as our starting center when Jeff Faine was hurt. Not to mention Ted Larsen, a rookie drafted in the 6th round and released by the Patriots, being our starting LG and James Lee, a 3rd year OL who has only appeared in one game his entire career, being our starting RT.

All of those facts along with us being a fucking 3-13 team last season is reason enough to call you a hater when trying to downplay the play of Freeman while pump up Sanchez. Nobody, not even Bucs fans, had us doing as well as we are this season. You and everyone else seen the schedule before the season and still didnt see us being 7-3 but now that we are thats all anyone mentions as if we were world beaters last season. Save that strength of schedule shit for the birds, going from 3-13 to 7-3 is impressive no matter who we are playing.

Freeman > Sanchez by a wide margin. We would be 3-6 at best with Sanchez at QB.
