Frank Mir vs. Daniel Cormier in September, no Big Timmy

Junkie reports Sylvia has signed with Strikeforce and will fight Cormier on September 29.

Cormier is heading to the UFC after the fight but it seems like his only shot to get back is by coming through with the upset of the century.

The big news here isn't the fact that Cormier is fighting Sylvia, the big news is that Syvia signed a multi fight deal.

In light of the Meltzer report (which Dana denied but later admitted was true and turned out to be 100% correct) that Strikeforce fighters are locked into Showtime/Strikeforce and can not jump to UFC, even if their contracts are expired, you have to wonder why they signed Tim to multiple fights when this was presumably the last stand for Strikeforce at that weight.

Maybe Sylvia got a different type of deal, which allows him to go to UFC or get another token fight, in the event that he wins. If he loses, he'll probably just be cut.

Can't imagine Showtime gives a shit about Sylvia, so I'll be under the impression whatever deal he signed automatically transfers to the UFC.....but like you said, when he loses, he'll be cut anyway.

There's more to the story. The way it's structured, Dana can deny it and not be lying.

Cormier has known for 2 weeks that Sylvia would be the opponent.

All I was told is that there's a reason Dana has been very specific in saying that Sylvia has not signed with ZUFFA.

Remember, the parent company for Strikeforce is not Zuffa...it's Forza.

Or perhaps Showtime signed him. But Cormier is still under the impression that he's fighting Big Timmy. And Steven Marrocco, the guy who reported the story for MMAjunkie, is extremely reliable. He wouldn't have published the story without multiple confirmations.

And then there is this, when asked if he has heard who Barnett will be fighting....

The guy they have in mind right now, and I don't know if the fight has been signed, is a guy that you've likely never heard of. Unless you follow King of the Cage religiously.

in the early days there were worse maurice Smith you could argue Ricco Rodriguez and who do you want cormier to fight who else is there?
