General Ramblings on Weis and Notre Dame

Did anyone else LOL at this (in bold)?

Reasons to snub ND: Stoops' twin boys and daughters love Norman, Okla., and have passed the age when moving is no big deal. ... Wife Carol is a powerhouse in the cosmetics business for Mary Kay. ... Stoops wants to win three national titles at OU, like Bud Wilkinson and Barry Switzer did. He's two short of that now.

I don't understand why Stoops would leave OU just for the single fact that he wouldn't be able to recruit Texas as hard anymore.
 
It will also be interesting to see if Notre Dame even accepts a bowl bid now at 6-6. Weis is gone and so is the rest of the staff. If you fire Weis he wouldn't be able to coach in the bowl game and the you have no one to call the offensive plays. Tenuta or Brown wouldn't coach it as the defense is awful so how the hell could they expect run the whole team when they can't even get the defense right.

Plus ND has nothing to gain from going to a bowl this year. It will be another mid to lower tier bowl against a middle tier program and if ND loses then it's just one more issue this year.

They went to Hawaii last year but they knew Weis was going to be around and there was some cohesion heading into the next season. Now everything is a mess.

It will be interesting to see what they do.

More general news and notes:

-Rumors are that Stoops could be in South Bend as early as today to interview for the job. From Tony Barnhart, CBS Sports. Stoops has since denied the rumor. But it's still interesting. It's 2:42 CST. Do you know where your Bob Stoops is?

-Weis is rumored to have cleaned out his office BEFORE the team even went to Stanford after Swarbrick told Weis last week that it would be best if Weis and the university went separate ways.

-Clausen is most likely heading to the NFL according to most any sources. Last night after the game he reportedly gave his helmet to his brother to keep as a souvenir of his career.

-Also, on the Clausen front people who have never liked the kid have begun piling on calling him "aloof" and saying "half the team" likes Dayne Crist better and wanted him starting.

ND is down and people are piling on anybody they can or anyone they don't like. You even had one reported wondering by Clausen wasn't suspended for what happened outside CJ's last weekend. LOL.

Whatever. Clausen was an amazing leader this year and the team believed in him whenever he had the ball. Tate, Floyd, the Oline, everyone that I have ver heard speak has had a high opinion of him and a fw guys I know on the team have never even spoke about him with any inkling of the team not being behind him.

-Tate was crushed last night after the loss. Openly crying. It's still up in the air if he is going to go to the NFL(I'd put the odds at about 60-40 he goes pro, but another year in college working on his route running may help.

Either way the kid should be in New York as a Heisman finalist. It would be tough for anyone to make the case that he wasn't one of the three or four best players in college football this year regardless of Notre Dame's record as none of those losses had anything to do with Tate.

Yeah but with ND having it's own TV contract money is not as much of an issue for the school. At this point IMO the school will save itself the possible embarrassment of an ugly bowl loss rather than just go to a bowl for money they don't really need.

No. Not what I said at all/not the point I was trying to make.


What I said is that it's a no win situation for them. There's no bonus in going to the bowl game. Notre Dame doesn't need the money so that's not an issue. If they win people shrug and still say they suck and are a joke. If they lose, by 1(which would still be an ugly loss when looking at the type of program they would face in the bowl) or by 20, it's just another embarrassment this season. There's no benefit to a Notre Dame team in disarray going to a bowl game. Last time it happened after the Ty firing Oregon State blew them out.

I have no doubt Notre Dame could handle Central Michigan or whoever the MAC would send to whatever shit bowl ND gets into, but there's really no benefit in taking the risk of yet another embarrassing loss to a program already in turmoil. A win does nothing for anyone, and a loss is just one more kick in the nuts in a season full of them.

What about Chris Petersen? Has he gotten any interest for a big time job yet? If not, why? Boise is stuck in bum fuck egypt and they are undefeated every season. I would love to have him coach my school.

Now, I know you hear this about every other mid-major coach in America, but Peterson has turned down numerous job offers and he really wants to stay there.

I guess he does have a pretty good gig. Boise is a well known school these days, they can legitimately make the BCS almost every season if they get themselves a big time game (Oregon) at the beginning of the season.
 
I'm still hearing a lot on Kelly, Patterson, and Stoops. Those really seem to be the only names in the running right now.
 
For many reasons, this rumor is stupid, and thus I probably shouldn't even post it, but, a thread was started at TigerForums about Miles interviewing at Notre Dame.

I LUL'd at the thought, which is absurd on so many levels.

Having said that, Gary Patterson should be at the top of the list, have you heard his name at all FT?
 
Peterson said he wouldn't leave Boise until his "mission" was complete which is to turn them into a national force that can recruit top talent after he leaves (main objective) .
