[PS4] Going "Next-Gen" - NEED HELP

Allright guys, I am ever so close to purchasing a next-gen system. I have always preferred Playstation and don't really see a need to switch consoles.

HOWEVER, I'm not as tech-savvy as many of you, so I honestly don't know what gives me the most bang for the buck. I can look at comparison charts for system specs and it's like reading German to me. I don't know what is good vs bad.

I'm just looking for some informed guys to provide me with an idea of what system might be best for me.

Personally, I enjoy playing sports games, FPS and really enjoy the Uncharted series. Not really a huge RPG guy - I don't have a ton of time (i.e. 50 hours to devote to a game). Most of my gaming stems from when Mrs. Leaf goes to sleep and I fire up the system and play till about midnight. Also, I do have my vices, I need games that are going to be aesthetically pleasing.

That's about all I can really give you in terms of what I do with my gaming system. Now I just need some advice on whether I should move to the dark side and go to XBOX One or stay brand loyal and go with the PS4. Please provide pros/cons for each system, I am really looking to make an informed and confident decision.

All dependent on which system's games are better to you. If neither of that matters, then it depends on what you want from the console. If you want a strict gaming device, the PS4 is better with the $100 price difference. If you're looking for an all-in-one entertainment system, the Xbone is well worth the extra $100.

Graphics being a need for you wont really matter with either system. They'll both look about identical.

Sounds like a PS4 will suit you just fine with the lower price tag. Graphics for both systems are about identical as Primetime said, and now each charges you to get online, so that's no longer an advantage for the PS4.

Still, you like sports games, and I know you like baseball, so with the Uncharted Series plus the Show, this makes it an easy choice for you I think.

I would say PS4 at this point. Almost hands down. Free games every month is huge as well as many other advantages. If voice support is for you and being able to watch TV while you play I would say Xbox One... but not for another 6 months til they get all the bugs out. Still quite a few systems having to be replaced at this point.

Both companies announced that less than 1% of consoles have needed to be replaced.

Ive been called an xbox fanboy on this site a few times lol and even i say PS4 at this point. My Xbox One is basically a $500 Forza Box as its the only game I own. PS4 has the games and with me being a huge baseball fan if I had to choose I'd go PS4

honestly, i wouldnt buy either one. they are both extremely over priced and neither one out shines the other. this isnt like a jump from ps2/xbox to ps3/360. the gaming aspect of these consoles has not stepped forward. they are more or less media centers that dont even match up with last gens abilities.

neither one can stream media which is a basic function of any smartphone these days and something both could do last gen.

if you are buying this to play games then i would spend the 700 bucks and build your own system. games look better, they play better, they have mods and they have a huge online community if that interests you.

I stream media on my XB1 on a daily basis.

Install the xbox video/music app
Add it to your devices on your computer
Right click on a file > play to > XB1

Very easy.

I have a PS4. Is it a must buy? No. Do I like it? Kinda, but not losing sleep because I own it.
I don't have an Xbox One? Is it a must buy? No. Do I wish I owned it? Not really, it's the size of a VCR, doesn't do enough to convince me I need more than just a PS4.
At the end of the day, if I own either a 360 or PS3, do I really need a next-gen console? Seriously, no. I like my PS4, but NBA2k14 was a better game on my 360, though not as pretty. Madden 25 is clearly a better playing game on next-gen, but not worth the $500 investment (ps4 and Madden),

All that said, if you absolutely must go next-gen, you really can't go wrong with either system. Pick one and say to yourself: "Damn, I just spent too much for a marginal upgrade in graphics and to say I am one of the cool kids."

Just buy a ps4 from amazon...if u dont like it then return it and they will give your ur money back. You are not buying a home or signing a 12 month lease. Its not that big of a decision.

If you don't need one right now, just wait. I have both and honestly still find myself playing more PS3/360 than anything still.

Looking long term, it looks like XBone will have a lot more options as far as an overall entertianment experience. They do have a TON of bugs and issues to work through at this point though. Party chat only seems to work about half the time as this point which is sad. If you just want a console for games, then it's PS4 all the way. PS+ is amazing and it sounds like you prefer the PS exclusives anyway. Plus PS Now is supposed to be coming in the Summer.

I can only offer insight to the Xbox one. Overall I am happy with it, I use it for gaming, wife uses it for Xbox Fitness. The only complaint I really have is how they have alienated everyone from each other. I don't even look at my friends list because it is so annoying to go to.

Luckily there have been some pretty badass mockups of how it should be on /r/xboxone so maybe Major Nelson will relay those peoples' ideas.
