Report: Miami Hurricanes AD to meet with Jon Gruden today
By Cindy Boren
The University of Miami is continuing to try to lure "Monday Night Football" analyst and former coach Jon Gruden back to the sideline, with Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt traveling to Tampa to meet with Gruden today, according to a report.
Hocutt, a source told the Miami Herald, is on a fact-finding mission to determine just what level of interest Gruden has in the job. Although he initially expressed none, another source has told the Herald that he may be softening. Two members of the school's Board of Trustees told the Herald that Gruden is the university's top choice and that a marketing plan is in place should he take the job.
Although Canesport.com reported that Gruden and Miami are working out the final details and that he will be named coach unless there's a last-minute catch, the Herald reports that trustees dispute that.
Other names on the Canes' list, according to the Herald, are Mississippi State's Dan Mullen, Stanford's Jim Harbaugh, Connecticut's Randy Edsall, Utah's Kyle Whittingham and Arizona's Mike Stoops.
Only two days ago, Gruden issued a statement saying he was "committed to 'Monday Night Football.' " Perhaps Monday's dog of a game between Arizona and San Francisco changed his mind.
