Guida vs Pettis is what's wrong with MMA

So, what did guida actually do to win? Did he land more strikes? Did he have any sub attempts? What did he do to win?

Pettis landing more strikes from the bottom and actually controlled guida more from the bottom with wrist control and sub attempts, even his brief time on top was better than clays entire time on top

MMA is scored like garbage, it's killing the sport, exciting, innovative fighters 'lose' because of crappy judging and no one cares

Active guards would be nice if they scored them better...but in the end, Guida controlled the fight. Pettis couldn't defend the takedowns and was only in a dominant position momentarily in the final round. IIRC, he only came close once or twice with subs, but Guida quickly fended them off and returned to maintaining his control.

With the way the rules are now, the result was correct.

Obviously takedowns are given a lot of credit compared to fighting off your back, but everyone knows this.

pettis really did get hosed from start to finish. i never wanted to see edgar-maynard 3 even though i thought the second fight was good. there's too many contenders waiting to go to a rubber match with two of the blandest personalities in the sport. should of been edgar-pettis after the draw and maynard could of waited his turn.

It seems that the only 'effective' ground fighting can be from the top position, something has to be changed, just like the torres/mighty mouse fight, torres had reversals, sweeps, sub attempts, what did MM do? Got takedowns?

Its what I have been saying for a long time, if somebody takes you down and just holds you, they should count that takedown AGAINST him. Now, this was of course not the case with Guida, so you can give him the takedown, but on the ground, all the attacks (pretty much) came from Pettis, I am just saying, that should count for something as well.

People say, "Yeah, but submission escapes should count for something as well", yes, but NEVER more then the submission attacks.

Like I said in an earlier tweet, if somebody attacks on the feet, and the other one just defends, and only "once a while" throws something back. Then , even when the person who attacks doesn't land a strike, HE is the aggressor, and in a striking match, HE will win the fight if it goes to a decision.
In a ground fight, the guy who goes for submissions should be awarded more then the guy who defends them and only "once a while" tries one of his own, exactly the same as standing.

That's my thought about this whole thing, again, I don't wanna take something away from Guida, he played a smart game, but it needs to be said.

There is nothing that can be done until the judging gets more sophisticated. Its a young sport, and the judging is way behind in the evolutional curve.

I think they need to get more retired fighters and refs involved in the judging process. Most of these judges are either old boxing or kickboxing judges. Thats absurd. Give me Pat Miletich, Bas Rutten, and Mario Yamazaki and tell Nelson Hamilton & Cecil Peoples to get lost.

I think the real issue is the boxing like scoring to MMA bouts.

This method has been going on forever, so, everyone is used to it and it leads to not enough 10-7's, 10-8's, and 10-10's rounds.

The guard is a nuetral position, jugdes don't understand it, of course 'points' should be rewarded for the takedown is that TD actually leads to something, but if all you do is stay on to and do no damage, don't pass or whatever it should be negated if the guy on bottom is striking, getting near subs, being active, hugging isnt scoring

Look at MM vs Torres, MM got the TD, Torres swept him, what did that TD get? nothing, TD's do no damage unless it's a slam and even that's not damaging for the most part
