Has Matt Ryan Been "Crowned" Too Early?

Matt Ryan is a great young QB and has star written all over him. That's all that has ever been said. He's not the best QB in the league or even the best young QB at this point. Just a very good QB who has the drive and makeup to eventually become a great QB.

Flacco had nothing to do with them "raping" us in the playoffs last season. That was 100% the Ravens defense.

Yeah I mentioned in a previous post, I don't remember him having more then 10 completions in that game.

I just looked it up.

Flacco was 9 for 23 in that game.

I think Flacco is a better QB than Ryan and I was definitely more impressed with him last year than I was with Ryan.

Matt Ryan threw for 3500+ yards on a crappy team projected to finish last in the league while Joe Flacco did not throw for 3000 yards on a Super Bowl contending team. Joe Flacco did jack shit for his team in the play offs, he managed to not completely get exposed and blow it the first playoff games and then finally showed just how much that Defense carried the team last season.

Joe Flacco didn't throw for 3,000... oh, God forbid he fall only less than 30 yards short of fucking 3,000. And Matt Ryan did not throw for 3,500+. Get that "+" the fuck out of here. He threw for 3,440. You tried to pull an inflate/deflate move and failed.

And the Ravens were Super Bowl contenders last year? Really? After going 5-11 in one of their worst years in their existence, surrendering a win to the 1-15 Dolphins, and firing Brian Billick? They were Super Bowl contenders?

I like both of these guys futures in the NFL. Neither are top 10 yet, but they both look very promising.

With apologies to Senser, this. Not sure why it has to be one or the other. Both look like they will have good careers and win a lot of games. I think Ryan is a bit more of a Tom Brady cerebral type whereas Flacco has the great arm and a lot of moxie. Two different QBs but both very good at what they do and they could very well end up the two great QBs of their generation.

While I enjoy an inflate/deflate move as much as the next guy, I have to admit that was one of the weaker moves.

My take is that Matt Ryan was seen as an integral part of Atlanta's turnaround, whereas Flacco was more of 'on the periphery' of Baltimore's success. If this is correct or not, I don't really know, but I think that is the difference in perception of the two QBs. I think Flacco is a lot like Roethlisberger in that he can make plays at key times, even if he isn't the best statistical QB.

I like Flacco, but Ryan is the better QB. Ryan is much more accurate, and more poised in the pockett. Flacco has some good footwork and one hell of an arm but his accuracy is still a work in progress. I was very impressed by him this week, but not enough for me to put him above Ryan in a ranking of the top QB's. Ryan is a top 15 QB in the NFL, while Flacco is in the top 20.

The Ravens were always seen as a competant qb away from being a superbowl contender (or at least a QB not named Kyle Boller) . The Falcons also got more hype last season because of the Mike Vick shit

I dont think its that he's been "crowned too early" at all. What happened was Matt Ryan was in the right situation at the right time to succeed early. The guy put in the work and didnt slack at all his rookie season and got us into the Wildcard round.

He's going to be an elite QB, he just needs more experience and he'll continue to grow into the QB that the league expects him to be. The thing he has going for him is his work ethic, hes the hardest working player on the Falcons and he really wants to be a great player.

I read through this thread and couldn't get through the whole thing without laughing.

I'm still trying to find out how Matt Ryan is better. Every week Flacco's stats get better, Ryans seem to be getting worse.

Ryan has now dropped to a 78.8 Qb rating... Flacco is still sitting high at 90 qb rating.

Ryan has 14tds- 12ints - 2008yds
Joe has 12tds - 7ints - 2044 yds (has yet to play this week ((monday night game)))

Ryan has better weapons and a far easier schedule and somehow is doing worst... I can't figure it out.

Every thread about either of these guys and you got Falcons and Ravens fans going back and forth. I don't know why it's important who's better between Flacco and Ryan. There's no rivalry. They don't even play in the same conference and will play each other like once every four years.

That being said, I co-sign what Archer posted earlier. Ryan was a huge beneficiary of the Mike Vick situation. Him coming in and doing well after that disaster gave him a lot of extra shine he didn't deserve.
