In light of a couple of moves that happened shortly after I made this.. I decided to make a Version 1.1 of my Mock..

My first of three mocks leading up to the 2009 NFL Draft. The first of three will focus on the first round of the draft without any trades.

I'm too lazy to write up any comments about the picks for now.. so if you have any questions about why I went the way I did.. just ask away.

If Nicks is still on the board, I don't see Indy snagging a DT not named Jerry or Raji.

Yeah, they're both needs. DT, whilst being a bigger need, doesn't have the depth that the WR does this year. If Raji and Jerry are gone, it'll be a WR. Unless everyone goes apeshit on receivers in the first twentiesh picks.

I disagree with the Lions.. the only way they wind up with Curry is if they moved down and I cannot see that happening.

As for Miami.. they are a hard team to peg, I think Sintim would be a good fit though.. and Al Groh (a Parcells guy) raves about him.

Miami will go Darius Butler if he's there, they need a corner badly and they are very high on the kid. Other choice would be Hakeem Nicks.

And sorry Hass, but no way Seattle's going Crabtree...it's going to be OL

Hass has been so stuck on Crabs at #4, he'll have the guy still going to seattle on his post draft wrap up, even if they pass on him.

He even has me wanting Seattle to take the guy.

I think we're going BPA, and in this mock that BPA is Crabtree.

If Jason Smith fell to 4, he would be the likely pick, but I just don't see us taking Monroe, Sanchez or Raji over Michael Crabtree.

No chance the Birds take Wells.
Reid hates the run game ... and Wells not a good fit for what Reid does on offence.
Second Eagles pick makes sense.

No matter how many times you have the Hawks taking Crabtree, it ain't happening Hass.

I've said this a few times on MM and in the thread about who the Lions will take at #1.

To summarize. Detroit needs a QB. They need someone to market their franchise around, to get people excited.. and I don't think that guy is Aaron Curry.

Curry is actually the #2 player on my entire board behind Michael Crabtree, but like the Texans and 49ers did when they had #1 picks.. the Lions have to at least try to get a franchise type QB. Matthew Stafford is the most likely guy to be that.

The Seahawks will not select a WR. They just signed Houshmandzadeh. They will either go OT or Raji

If the Saints select Jenkins most likely it would to play safety. They have problems at safety and at cornerback they already have Mike Mckenzie, Tracy Porter, Randall Gay and they signed Jabari Greer to a 4 year contract.

I really cannot see Raji falling all the way to #11 or the Chargers selecting Knowshon Moreno. (Unless LT gets traded, but San Diego newspapers report that the Chargers are close to a deal to restructure Tomlinson's contract)

Also i don't see 4 DT's being selected in the first round with all the other players better that can be selected at the needed positions for the Colts and Titans.


Decent mock overall. I'll be creating my #3 mock in a few weeks just to make sure all of the major free agents have been signed then another one about a week prior to draft day.

I really don't think Rey-Rey gets to Detroit's 2nd pick. I think he goes to San Diego.

As for the rest, it looks good, but I think Seattle goes with Monroe. You may not like to hear this... but, there are rumblings that Crabtree may not be the first WR off the board, simply because of his surgery. People say it is good he had it so soon, but to say he played with it for a long time, then skip out on a 40 yard dash to get it fixed seems sketchy. He might not nearly be as good as advertised in many people's minds.

Please link me to where Miami has said they're very high on Butler.

Parcells doesn't draft a WR high in the draft and I really don't think it's something we'll do. LB/DL/OL. We're building from the lines out.

You don't read much of the Miami area news I guess. Then again I did use to live in the FL area so I was more inclined to read it as habit.

The rest of the majority of the talk comes from scouts/insiders on fan forums. Kinda odd Miami's big need is CB & WR and they didn't try at all for any of the one's in the market?? Parcells isn't stupid and he knows what he wants and where he can get it.

Personally, I drool over Brian Robiskie at our 2a pick from Washington. I am not an OSU fan, but I love this kid. Great size, polish, and intelligence thanks to his father's career and upbringing. Not a blazer in speed, but his size , route running and hands are good. I think this kid will have a long productive career.

Houshmandzadeh was signed to more or less fill Bobby Engram's role on the roster. He is the perfect fit for that position.

That said, if Crabtree is the best player available.. I still think he is the pick. Again, as I have said already.. the only guy that may change that line of thinking is Jason Smith.

Tim Ruskell even said today he is not done overhauling the WR's.. so take that for what its worth.

The thing with Monroe.. or any OL not named Jason Smith is that there are still some major chinks in their armor. In the specific case of Monroe.. he's got two things working against him.. one, he has some durability concerns. He has missed time due to a knee injury two years ago.. and while last year was a healthy campaign.. there are still questions about that knee.

Two.. he is really a very soft player. At least softer than you would want to see from a potential franchise left tackle. He does not have a mean streak and the faster pass rushers give him problems. Now.. could he benefit from learning from a Walter Jones? Probably.. but it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to draft a non-quarterback in the Top 5 of the draft if you are not going to play them. So either we pay Monroe.. or Oher.. or whoever.. franchise tackle money (likely higher than that of Walter Jones) and have him wait for an injury or sit out the entire 09 season.. or we grab someone that would play immediately.

Raji would make sense, but he has some character concerns.. and Tim Ruskell will NOT draft someone with those attributes. It simply will not happen. That's why he went out and got Colin Cole in FA.

So if the board fell Stafford, Smith and Curry.. which all indications are that that will be the Top 3.. then that leaves Raji, Crabtree, Sanchez and Monroe as your best players available. To me.. Crabtree is the BPA and the pick in that scenario.

That pick was basically accounting for the possibility of LT being cut. I agree that Moreno would not be drafted if they restructure his deal.

As for Raji.. I think his stock was a bit overblown after the Senior Bowl and he is starting to fall back into the area he would have went anyway. The only team in the Top 5 I see looking at him is Cleveland.. and even then I think they have a bigger need with a pass rusher than Shaun Rogers replacement.

I am not a Buckeye fan, nor will I ever be confused with one.. but I do like Robiskie a lot and think he will be a fine pro for whoever drafts him.

Robo is a great fit for a team looking for a solid #2. He reminds me a lot of Cris Carter in some respects (Although comparing him to a future HOFer is probably a bit far-fetched).
