[ALL] HDMI switchers

Does anyone have any experience with them? With new consoles out I'm out of HDMI inputs on my receiver. I don't want to buy a new receiver and I see plenty of these switchers. Some are automatic. Some come with a remote and their own power supply. My main issue is that I don't want any latency or other issues with my receiver.

I'm obviously doing my own research and reading customer reviews but I'm curious if anyone here has first hand experience with them?

Right now my WiiU is hooked up directly to the tv and my 360 and PS4 are sharing a HDMI cable. This situation is obviously not ideal.

I have a Rocketfish HDMI switcher that I bought at Best Buy. It switches automatically and it has a remote. No problems with it when it comes to gaming (or any at all elsewhere) and I've been using it for over a year.

I got one for mono price.com a couple years ago and it works fine. It's kind of like one of those extensions for USB but for HDMI

I have this same one. No complaints.

My issue comes with audio. I only have one digital and one optical input on my receiver. I really don't want to hook my PS3, 360, or Ps4 up to shitty standard red/white RCA inputs.

When you guys run the HDMI through the receiver, do you have to run a separate audio cable too or does the receiver split the 2 for you and send the picture to the TV and audio to the surround speakers? Right now my video goes directly to the TV, and my audio is sent to the receiver. (receiver is an 8yr old Yamaha and doesn't have HDMI ability)

PS4, XBONE, and DTV goes into receiver. HDMI handles both sound and video. I have one hdmi cable going into my TV and that it.


edit - actually DTV goes through XBONE and then XBONE goes to Receiver. I run a 5.1 Surround sound.

Sound still comes out of TV too as well as 5.1 speakers?

I'm thinking of buying a new A/V receiver, mine is lacking inputs, but I hate to do it because the one I have is a quality piece.

No....I turned off the TV speaker or mute, whichever. Speakers on these super thin LEDS are terrible. I never use them.

My set up. I have 2 surround spkrs on stands behind my couch. Battlefield 4 sounds incredible.

I am not an audiophile at all. My shit my sound terrible to some but its loud and crisp when I want it to be and can boom the house as well.

I use a digital optical output from my TV, so all the sounds goes through that to a DAC, then to my home stereo.

For those buying any expensive switchers, you really don't need to. It either works or it doesn't ... same reason why you shouldn't buy expensive HDMI cables.

I don't think that's the same comparison. I've read a bunch of reviews about all of the switchers I was looking at on Amazon. Some of the cheap ones, like the automatic ones, have issues with audio and won't even display in 1080p but will only do 720p.

The one I pointed out does 1080p and HDMI 1.3b. My audio is via digital optical on my TV, not sure what your audio setup is.

Frankly, for what you spend on your stuff Twigg, why not gamble $15 on a simple switcher.

You're not understanding me Dave. I know what they're capable of, but unlike HDMI cables themselves these switchers seem to have actual quality issues and some don't work as advertised. Whereas an HDMI cable is an HDMI cable.
