This is the first game I'm getting for PS3 after I replace GTA4. I have Indigo Prophecy on PS2, but now I have to backtrack because my guy fell apart.

Did you notice there was an error in the instructions?

I didn't do it, but that wouldn't surprise me considering the number of errors in the writing and story. I think this thing must have suffered from some kind of poor translation or something.

That's one of the main reasons I didn't guy this game. I've heard/read it's such a distraction. For a game that is all about immersion that's a huge disappointment.

Whenever theres choppy dialogue, horrible french accents or bad voice acting I just remind myself about how great this game is.

I don't know what the hell you guys are talking about. This game is great. I had no problem following the story. Not gonna rip on it because I don't like the accents either - didn't bother me at all. Everyone can't sound "American" guys.

When a game takes place in the U.S., fictitious city or not, the characters should be authentic.

The game is great. Which is what I said in my last post. It's just horribly executed in some areas.

And I had no trouble following the story either, except when there are plot holes or writing screwups that are unforgivable in general, let alone in a game supposed to be STORY BASED.

Here's 3 off of the top of my head:

 

In one ending, if Shelby is killed, it's stated that he's 48 years old. His twin brother died in 77. The game takes place in 2011/2012. Which, if Shelby is 18, would make him around anywhere from 14-18 years old. Not quite the 10 that is thrown in the face of the gamer about 14 times regarding his TWIN brother that dies.

And 2:

 

Absolutely NOTHING is explained as to why Ethan blacks out and wakes up with an Origami figure in his hand. NOTHING. It's just purely there to make us think that he's the killer. Add to that Madison being shocked when she hears the name of the name of the killer, even though she's met Shelby and...

for the big #3:

 

YOU PLAY ALMOST HALF OF THE GAME AS SHELBY WITH HIS THOUGHTS! HIS. THOUGHTS. They tout this option as if it's all about the gameplay. Yet, wait, go back, and if you listen to his thoughts, he doesn't seem like he's "cleaning up after himself" as one epilogue points out, but rather, he's ACTUALLY INVESTIGATING THE KILLER. Which, wait a tick: HE IS THE KILLER.

So yeah, I GOT the story. It's not really hard to get. It's like Seven only it makes less sense. I'm saying that it seems like between blatant simply math errors and just major plot screw ups, it's either badly written or badly translated. Sorry if I sound agitated, I just REALLY want to love it. The gameplay is so unique and really draws you in and makes you feel like every second and moment counts. But at the end, the payoff is hollow because it makes not sense.

Dang...I was trapped in the car about to get crushed, climbing out, I was almost out and I had to tap triangle, in my haste my finger slipped and hit another button, bam, dead. I feel better hearing that 3 of your characters died...hopefully I can end it with 2-3 guys left. This game is getting intense

And damn, if you've gotten all the endings, then for a person that hates the game this much you've put some time into it - unless you're using a guide or just skipping to chapters with key decision points.

You can start at different chapters in the game after you finish it. It's not that hard.

And stop saying I hated the game. You're putting words into my mouth. I said that the twist, as written, makes no sense, and the way it was handled equally makes no sense. I'm glad that you liked it, but it leaves things unanswered (Ethan) and doesn't add up (did you even read my post regarding the plot twists?).

My bad. In a story-driven game like this, I would hate it if I had a problem with the main "twist." It was an assumption.

I read your post about the plot twists and I just don't agree. I thought it was pretty good. I don't agree that it didn't make sense either. On my second playthrough I'm catching things that hint at who the killer is and it's awesome - I really think if someone was paying close enough attention on their first playthrough they could figure it out on their own.

 

Listen to Shelby's thoughts in the Typewriter store (right before he kills the owner inexplicably) or when he's outside the woman who committed suicide's place. They all are framed as if he's actually investigating the murder. Then at the end they're all like "he was just trying to root out evidence to destroy it!" which makes no sense. Unless, they're asking us to invalidate the thought system, but they aren't, they claim early in the game that it's an integral part. Also, as I stated before, what about the fact that they say in the endgame news report that Shelby was 48. The game takes place in 2011, Shelby's TWIN brother, age 10, died in 1977. Yet, Shelby would have been, at his youngest, 14.

And if you don't find Ethan's blackouts/appearances with an origami in his hand to either be 1) unfairly misleading; 2) never explained; or 3) making no sense, then I'd like your explanation for it. I'd also like to what small things early on point you to the fact that Shelby is the killer. If anything the game goes out of it's way to point at Ethan, never explains why, and just shoe horns Shelby in there with borderline Deus Ex Machina.

Let's also not forget that in the game it was stated that the Origami Killer was committing these crimes for 3 years. Ethan's thing happened TWO years before the game's narrative picked up, PLUS he was in the hospital with a coma. Yet the police never consider this fact.

Like I've said, it's not a bad game at all. It's a lot of fun, and has some of the most intense and awesome sequences I've played in a game. I just don't see how you can say the story isn't, at best, missing crucial information or better editing or at worst, just poorly thought out and written. I'd be curious your explanations (not flaming, genuinely curious) to not only the previous plot holes/errors I mentioned, but also what I've put in this post.
