STORRS —
Two University of Connecticut students face charges that they possessed and distributed child pornography.
Gregory J. McKee, an 18-year-old freshman football player from Chicago, was arrested Tuesday by state police and arraigned Wednesday in Superior Court in Rockville on charges of promoting a minor in an obscene performance, importing child pornography and obscenity.
He was ordered held with bail set at $75,000.

Steven D. Lewis, 21, of Plainville, was arrested Wednesday morning at his dorm by the FBI's Connecticut Computer Crimes Task Force, officials said. He faces federal charges of possession of child pornography and the receipt and distribution of child pornography.
Lewis was arraigned Wednesday and released after posting $100,000 bail.
The cases appear to be unrelated, authorities said.
Lewis is facing charges in federal court after a Bristol police officer assigned to the FBI task force downloaded 34 images of child pornography from a shared directory maintained by Lewis. Lewis, a senior, is president of the French Club at UConn.
The charges against McKee grew out of a tip sent in September by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to the state police computer crimes unit. The tip from Ning.com, a social networking site, said two users had uploaded videos that appeared to be child pornography.
A state trooper tracked the source of the videos to an e-mail account at the University of Connecticut controlled by McKee, according to the warrant for his arrest.
The videos ranged in length from 6 seconds to 2 minutes and 40 seconds and showed children that state police estimated to be 8 to 15 years old engaged in sex. Others showed an adult and a male teen engaged in sex.
In a brief interview, state police said, McKee admitted that he downloaded the videos from links provided by people he met online. He said he uploaded the videos to Ning.com for someone he met online who was going to pay him for doing it. He said he was unable to contact that person after posting the videos.
He also said he had 20 videos and 20 photos of child pornography on his laptop, which state police seized, police said.
McKee is a redshirt freshman offensive tackle who did not play in any games this season. There are no plans for McKee to travel with the team to the Fiesta Bowl, when the Huskies play Oklahoma on Jan. 1 in Arizona, according to Mike Enright, the university's associate athletic director for communications.
McKee is from King College Prep High School in Chicago. He graduated in December 2009 and was on the UConn campus in January 2010 for the spring semester. At the high school, he ranked 23rd in a senior class of 218 in Chicago and was a member of the National Honor Society.
McKee participated in spring and summer practices with the football team but never made the depth chart and was red-shirted. In high school, McKee also was considered a top wrestler in Illinois.
