How do you use your WR's?

We all know in the past maddens. The Matt Jones's of madden have been better than the Marvin Harrisons.

Do you guys prefer the WR's that are actually good in real life or the tall/fast no-names that are good in Madden.

I use a couple of teams with the Marvin Harrisons of the NFL but I don't know exactly what routes to send them, which ones make them perform better than the tall/fast WR's and actually make them useful.


And yes I know Harrison isn't elite anymore but he's the best example I can think off. I'm talking about the Harrison from a few years back.

I like guys who catch the ball(may sound stupid), But the big fast no-names always seem to drop it for me. And plus i'm usually a short-medium pass guy so at receiver I need someone who can bring it in.

Yes, catch rating is everything now. Im in a league where im the chargers. Through 3 games Vernon davis has 4 drops, Matt Jones had 4 drops. Chris Chambers with his 5'9" frame and average speed has zero drops.


I signed Jones as Free Agent and acquired Vernon via trade.


I usually play with the titans, i have no problem moving the ball with their tall slow WRs.

they kinda calmed down those tall fast WR's...cept Matt Jones, he was getting all types of open on me in a league game i had.

in all my leagues, i haven't had a WR better than Jerricho Cotchery...ugh geez.

The fix is simple.

Either add a rating or use awareness.

High awareness = WR will be more likely to shake off man coverage AND when against zone defence, settle into holes in the zone and alter their pass pattern into open areas.

Low awareness = WR will have trouble breaking away from man coverage AND when against zone defence will tend to run his pattern into other defenders zone's.


WR's in Madden run perfect routes everytime. Slipping down is irrelevant. You know to the pixel the spot the WR is going to break his cut and where he's going to be 99% of the time. It's retarded.

I've played and watched enough football to see how intelligent WR's find ways to get open. They don't always run their patten exactly as drawn in the play.

Catch in Traffic is my favorite stat. I dont care much for speed, it doesn't make a huge difference to me, I mean... you get what? maybe two deep balls to the speed guys anyways? I dont want WR's that will drop the ball cuz I can't afford to buy any more controllers at this point from getting so pissed.

I kinda like the new ratings where there are only maybe 10 WRs who are over 92 speed. I dont like that 4 of those 10 are rookies

I still value height even if they are slow, Justin Gage is a monster for me with his 80 speed, i try to manually catch everything and his 6'4" height definitely helps.

I like to send my taller WR's on drags and in's because they have a better chance of catching it and holding on to it when they get hit by LB's. But then again I send all my WR's on slants.....

Offline - love using Davone Bess in the slot. He's a stud. Like hitting Evans on left side with slants to mid. Like hitting Owens on routes to the sidelines on right side.

I was doing the WR/DB mini game drill with Andre Johnson and I ran like 6 ins/slants in a row and everytime I caught it the DB tackled him and he dropped the ball. Shit pissed me up

I used to love Slower Bigger receiver but this is the first year I could honestly say I'd rather use a Santana Moss, or Steve Smith..

I like stronger (not necessarily taller) receivers with high CIT ratings because I want to work in the middle of the field and love YAC.

I like my tall fast receivers, and in the slot I like a fast receiver, really only look at speed when I judge who plays that spot. When I want possession I usually look at my tight end or possibly a fullback out the back field.

I like WRs with good press release, nothing is worse than dropping back on a big play and watching your WRs getting their asses whooped while u get sacked.

Devin Hester is the best WR in the game and possibly player, hands down.

WR are ineffective this year. Unless you're content with only completing passes on certain plays. Pretty much any crossing route and outs if you time them correctly.

WR play is crippled because of rocket catch whiners. Instead of fixing the problem, they just take away strafing as a WR and only give the WR one catch animation(over the shoulder). And now all we see is rocket catch interceptions by the defense, double moves in mid air. Be able to swat the ball with your back to the ball AND make a hit on the WR.

:smh: I really hate this game right now.
