How far will Hester's athleticism take him?

Hester was never able to break the ice last year with his returns and I think it eventually got to him and destroyed his confidence. He wasn't much good as a returner last year.

I doubt he'd make a good WR in the NFL, but stranger things have happened.

Also I know Hester isn't Steve Smith and he's very far from being in the Pro Bowl, it was just a hypothetical comparison. Nobody expected Smith to do shit at WR in the NFL...same for Hester.

Brilliant comparison. I guess I could make the same comparison with any WR...nobody expected Smith to do anything in the NFL, as no one expects Mike Hass to do anything. Thus, I predict Hass will have a 1500-yard 15 TD season this year.

Hass was on the Bears practice squad last year, and he is actually in line for a roster spot on the Bears this year.

You can rip on Farmer all you want, but he basically made Fade McClown a top 10 draft pick.

He was on the Bears practice squad in 2007 and 2008. Honestly, last year he should have seen playing time. He was cut late last season.

A guy to watch out for could be Brandon Rideau. Spent time on the practice squad last year and by all accounts has made some nice strides. With the Bears complete lack of WR's and if he has another offseason/preseason like he had last year he could find himself a lot of playing time and could be a guy to watch.

Too slow though. He's like a young, less talented Mushin.

Honestly though Mushin was never a fast WR. IF Rideau learns how to use his bigger frame (6'3 200+lbs) he could be a legit larger target. Speed a lot of times IMO is overrated, if the guy knows how to get open and catch the ball the rest falls in line.

I think the Bears best wideout this year will be Earl Bennett. He'll be a breakout player.

Couldn't agree any more. Cutler and Bennett were a nice combo when they were both playing for Vandy. I'm assuming they haven't lost that much of their chemistry, and both are better than they were in college.

I read this and found it very interesting

If you take Devin Hester's final 12 games and exclude the two contests Kyle Orton either missed or failed to play anywhere near 100 percent, the Miami product racked up 41 receptions and 564 yards. Spread those figures out over a 16-game slate, and you get 66 catches and 902 yards.

Those aren't great numbers, but Hester is getting a huge boost with Jay Cutler at quarterback. Unlike Orton, Cutler can make all the throws, meaning Hester will be more of an offensive threat in 2009.

If you really think about it, in a 16 game season he would of had 900 yards and that's with Orton at Quarterback. I am one of the few believers that Hester could actually become a productive Wide Receiver with more time at the position and Jay Cutler actually making him a deep threat. Like I said, I'm one of the few to say watch out for Hester this year.

It would be too easy to throw the guy into another discussion of which players do better on Madden versus their real-life counterparts so...

Without a legit receiving threat to compliment Hester, Forte or Olsen (he still plays TE for Chicago right?), the Bears are looking at another ho-hum season of offense.
