How many Division 1 colleges do you cheer for?

I go to Toledo, so I like them.
I always cheer for the service academy's (Navy-Air Force-Army in order)
I like Paul Johnson so I cheer for Georgia Tech.
I like TCU's defense.
I like Va Tech's defense.
I like Stanford's style of offense (and Harbaugh)
I like Florida (both from living in the state and I like Meyer)
I like Pitt's style of offense (even if they would stink in the Big 10).

Too much "Tesas Pete hot sauce" (if you've ever seen the commercial, that's how he pronounces it, and it's hilarious), but really, I think he just loved his mama's cooking way too much, underestimated the damage that lugging that weight all around center field would do to his knees and back, and just lost his greatest skill. He's a shell of himself in the field, to the point where the Rangers were DHing him or playing him in right field last year, and he never adjusted his hitting to deal with his slowed down swing.

His back went out on him, but that's because he didn't really condition well to begin with.

Why is it so wrong to be a fan of 2 teams?

On a Saturday during the fall I can sit down, get the UGA game and pull for them, then a little later tune in to get yet another great football game from another team I am quite partial to in Bama. The only conflict that I ever have is every few years when they play each other. And really whats it like the two teams. 2 of Bama's biggest rivals = Tennessee and Auburn. 2 of Georgia's biggest = Tennessee and Auburn. I mean realistically there isn't a whole lot different. Both have great talent and both get great media coverage so I can follow them both closely. NCAA Football is my favorite sport as well and you only get 14 games per year at the most, where as a baseball fan gets 162. I just so happen to be able to watch my favorite teams up to 27 times in a year granted they both make the Conference championship.

I'm sorry if you think being a fan of 2 teams makes you a faggot but apparently thinking that makes you an idiot...

And I can do one better, granted I'm not big into basketball, I can say that I would pull for 3 teams in Division 1 college basketball: Bama, UGA, and the college I attended: Kennesaw State University? Is there so much a problem with that?

Just because I have 2-3 teams I would pull for doesn't make me any less a fan of one school than another. Bama will always be my favorite team just as the Braves will always be my favorite baseball team, but I just so happen to like watching UGA football as well where I don't like watching any other baseball team play unless they are playing the Braves...

Shocking, but uh, I can watch 11 games every Saturday, and enjoy watching all of them. I don't need to double up on teams just to squeeze some enjoyment out of football.

Yea he wasted a lot of talent. When I played baseball I played center field(wanting to be like deion again) and paid extra attention to all the Braves center fielders. Nixon, Sanders, Grissom, etc, and i feel Jones had the most talent out of all of them. Sad he couldn't keep it up and continue in ATL

That's exactly what this thread is about. You hit it on the head. University athletics are about support for the school, not for that particular squad.

I'm an LSU fan (alum rather) and that means I take the good with the bad. Our basketball team is winless in conference play this year, oh well, we've had some great players and a Final Four team in my lifetime, can't ask for much more. A good example I always use: how can you be a Florida football fan but not support their 2x national champion bball squad? Because 10 years ago you never imagined them being that good so you jumped ship to UNC/Duke? Makes no sense unless you just chalk it up to "front running".

Its only about the university and its athletics program if you attended the school. Im a huge Michigan football fan but i dont follow college basketball, baseball, hockey, lacrosse etc. By that same token if you follow the football team you should follow the swimming team.

Some people root for their favorite team becasue of someone that played there like i stated earlier. Realist has ties to FSU because of Deion, and UNC because of Vince. Im sure if one of them played two ways he probably woulda rooted for the Basketball/Football team.

Again, unlike most of you, I have no ties to a school either through family or attending. I became a fan by my favorite player and uncle. At the time I knew nothing about FSU bball or UNC football. There was no news or anything in GA regarding those schools. No internet lol. All I had was what came on TV and FSU football and UNC bball was in heavy rotation along with the GA teams here. I didn't know anything about divisions and who played in what conference.

Hell I like all the GA teams outside of hockey. I can tell you a lot about the Braves, Hawks, Falcons and UGA because I also followed them and actually cheer for them as long as they aren't playing my favorite teams

Granted, I see the point you are trying to make, but fact is, we all didn't grow up the same way. Congrats on being fans of one school, but that doesn't make you a better fan because some of us grew up differently and cheer for multiple ones. Again if you want to label me to a school, let it be FSU bcause I follow them more, but at the end of the day, ill still cheer for UNC

It depends on whether you're rooting for a school, or just a team. Say you went to Oregon, or Florida, or wherever. Then you should root for that school in everything they do. But if you simply like the Ducks, or like the option, well then I agree with Realist. Follow as many teams as you want.

Take me, for example. I like the Oregon Ducks. I'm not an alumni, or attached to their school in any way. I just love the football team. In basketball, I've been a fan of UNC since i was a little kid...how does that make me a worse fan than people who root for one school?



That's a great post, and basically what I'm saying.

All I'll say is this, if you have been a fan of UNC since you were a kid, why not be a fan of their football team too? They have a pretty solid team this upcoming year.
