I think people are getting a little to caught up in name changes. If they move to Brooklym they stay the New York Islanders. Brooklyn is still part of Long Island, so it all works.

You guys are looking way to much into it. The New York Islanders are a storied franchise, and though they suck now, you are not going to waste the history of the time because they moved inland a little more.

I do doubt they change from 'New York' but I wouldn't call it a lock.

This ownership group is looking to re-create the Nets entirely after becoming a trash heap of shit, no? The Isles have been a trash heap of shit for sometime too.

Put em together in a new building and I'm sure they'll consider how they want to build a complete brand, which may just include going with Brooklyn Islanders but I can't imagine they stray too far with the logo/colors. I think that's more assured than the name, IMO, but still a long shot most likely.

Yeah I don't see how the New York Islanders moving 25 miles down the island would necessitate a name change. All that would do is piss off a lot of fans.

It's a different ownership group though. Prokhorov seems to have no interest in owning the hockey franchise, if anything he'd just let them be a sub-tenant.

The Islanders already have a strong brand. They don't need a new brand, just a new barn. The N-hockey stick Y logo is iconic. Besides, they already tried to rebrand once with horrendous results (The "I Know What You Did Last Summer" fisherman guy).

Yeah I can see that, but I guess I'm just not one to fuck with team tradition. The NHL teams moving now have no back history. The Islanders won 4 straight stanley cups, and I guess even though now they are shit, I don't want to lose that. They won't be shit for much longer, and they did well for a little last season before obviously shit went bad. A new arena would have done wonders for this team I think.

The lighthouse logo was a solid secondary. Maybe if they move to Brooklyn they can bring the fisherman back but put a pair of corduroy cut off shorts, a flannel shirt and thick framed glasses on him.
