Heard on ESPN that the team rotates 3 5-man teams in every 30 seconds or so. Would be a fun team to watch play a game in person I think. Always enjoy seeing coaches that aren't afraid to try something completely off the wall and have some success with it.

Again, this is how Grinnell plays. Guys routinely score a ton of points against them. There's routinely guys who score 40-50+ on them. They don't guard layups.

Scoring 70 points while shooting 75%+ from the field, whether in a game or just shooting by yourself in practice, is pretty fucking impressive. I doubt all 34 of his shots were layups

He was 0-2 from 3pt and 2-4 from free throw. So unless he is really, really awesome a taking long twos and thought that was a good shot despite the fact that Grinnell doesn't have a defender near the basket guarding the rim, I'm going to guess most of his shots were layups.

Thanks for proving yourself wrong. Over the course of last year and this year:

-1 opposing player scored 48 points
-The next highest was a 37 point effort
-There were around 5 guys total in the past year who have scored more than 30, the highest(other than the 48) was 37.


Now how is this kid putting up 70 not considered special? It doesn't happen nearly as often as you say it does and nobody has put up 50+ in the past year against this team except this kid. Like I said before, whether in a game or a practice, putting up 70 points is damn impressive and doesn't happen very often at any level. He just happened to be overshadowed by a record breaking game.

edit, from the Deadspin article, a first-hand account from someone who actually watched the game:

There were a LOT of possessions where Taylor would chuck up a shot, miss, and his teammate would get the rebound wide open under the basket. Instead of putting it back up, he would look for Taylor again and pass it out so he could chuck another three. There were many possessions where this happened three times each. Six three-point attempts in two trips down the court.

Literally 75% of [Faith Baptist's] points were full court heaves to get it over Grinnell's press, then a wide open layup on the other end. Oh, and David Larsen's "impressive" 70-point effort? Hardly. They were 90% wide open layups. He maybe took a handful of jump shots.

Tyler Betz from Faith Baptist was 1-11 from the field with 15 turnovers. Maybe the worst game ever.
