but the jags arent realy rebuilding
They get ther line back plus an upgrad at LT with Thomas, they get Holt (all be it overpaid), they still have a pretty good defense and if they can add a Maclin, Raji or Jenkins through the draft that adds more fire power, they have the pieces, remindes me a lot of the ravens last year, injuries killed the season
The OL is aging and the entire interior line is coming back from injury. It is no sure thing it comes back and plays dominant run blocking football like it once did.
Holt is aging and coming off the worst season of his career and outside of Holt we got NOTHING.
We need to re-tool the backfield. Whether that is moving Greg Jones to the backfield and drafting a FB, or just outright drafting another RB, we need to fix that backfield.
The O needs A LOT of work.
On defense, the loss of Stroud was HUGE (can't stress it enough). Defensive Tackle is a MAJOR need on this team...I'd consider it the most important need. Need a body that can 2-gap AND rush the passer (like Big Marcus) so it frees up the DEs to rush the passer and the linebackers to make plays. Last year, without Marcus, our pass rush struggled and was overly inconsistent and the linebacker play was bad at times. Couple that with our DBs getting toasted, and needless to say, we need some work there too.
Changed D-Coordinators (G. Williams wasn't for us...good coordinator, just not for us) and have a new system in place, if we can get a Raji or Brace, it might help us play some hybrid 34/43 as we'll have a legit nose.
Jags need a lot more work than you let on. However, I am hoping we can put together a good season next year. It isn't out of the realm of possibility. The vets they signed, while aging, are still good players and if the Jaguars can FINALLY put together a productive draft, maybe we make some headway in 09.
Who knows?
