Jets and Revis, $40 Million Dollars Apart.

One of Darrelle Revis's best friends is Leon Washington. Washington was holding out for more money and decided to show up and play, while on his rookie contract, in hopes of having a good year and getting his cash.

Washington would later break his leg and be traded to Seattle.. still making just the salary he received from signing the tender offer.

Don't think Revis didn't see that and go "I have to get my money now."

Yeah, on the surface 10-years, $160 mil seems ridiculous.. but I'm sure Revis is after guaranteed money.. so if something were to happen to him this year, he wouldn't be screwed.

I can't really blame him for that. I agree with W2B to an extent but when you're clearly the best at your position, a position that's a premium.. coupled with the fact there may be no football next season.. you try to get paid.

Okay lets go through the tree. Let's start with the first generation. Guy meets girl, they have a kid. Le'ts say they were 28 when they have the kid for the heck of it. Now let's say 28 years later that kid meets a partner and has a kid. Then that kid grows up to be 18 right before he/she might have a kid.

That ends up being 5 people, 4 of which are grown ups. This also stems over about a 70 year period. 1 million dollars would be able to support all of them over that 70 year period.

On average once a kid turns 18 he/she has cost his/her parents about a quarter of a million dollars (250,000). Now in my example that would 2 kids but who's to say those families only have 2 kids (1 each). Some have 2, 3, 4 or even more. Thats already more than a million dollars there.

Let's say once these people turn adults they have suckish jobs and earn 30,000 dollars a year.

For the first generation (1 decade from 18 when they become adults til they are 28 about to have a kid) that would be 600,000 dollars for both of them over the first ten years. Now they have kids and lets say they keep working over the next 18 years. Over those next 18 years if both parents make a fucking low salary of 30,000 a year over the next 18 year together they would make a total of an additional 1,080,000 right there. Thats over 1 million right there.

Now over 28 years they both have horrible jobs and make a total of 1,680,000 dollars over this 28 year span.

There is no possible way 1 million dollars can hold over these parents, all the kids they have, then the kids their kids have. If both parents end up having 1 kid they wouldn't be able to support 3 generations let alone if they have multiple kids.

Also.. why do people STILL get hung up on the contract numbers? No contract is ever legit.. the player has to hit a bunch of ridiculous clauses in the deal to ever make the full amount of that deal. The figure that is guaranteed is the signing bonus, that's what Revis is after. The length and total salary of the contract means jack.. because a team will likely back load the fuck out of the deal so they can either rework it down the road, or release the player.

In sum 10 for $120 million with $30-40M guaranteed.. would likely be more like 4 or 5 years for $40 million or so, with that guaranteed money upfront. AND then they'd have to hit clauses each year, performance bonuses, snaps played, etc etc to make their annual salary.

On top of that Brandon Marshall made Cromartie his bitch with both Jay Cutler and Kyle Orton at QB. Surely he will have no problem making Cromartie his bitch with Chad Henne.

Why are they able to be paid that much? Because the NFL brings in so much revenue. Why do the NFL bring in so much revenue? Because of the players.

The League is making billions off the back of the players. If they don't get paid, where does all this revenue go to... the already billionaire owners who are already making massive profits off their NFL teams even with the athletes and coaches banking 7 or 8 figures each year.

It's no different then any industry out there, good workers who bring in more revenue for their company will get rewarded more then the slacker who comes to work 15 minutes late and punches out 15 minutes early every day.

It's just on a bigger scale. If Joe Blogg the insurance broker does good, he might bring in 5 extra customers a week. If Mr Bling Bling the Star Runningback scores 20 touchdowns a season, his team sells a warehouse full of merchandise every month and sell out the 85,000 seat stadium.

As if you were in that position you would be asking for one million a year... scrap that, you probably would, to stupid to count any higher.

The fact is- if you are making something like 40 million dollars but bitching because you think you need to make 50 M. You are are a moron and need to shut up and go play. there is no defense for Revis. thats just stupid, ignorant, selfish, pride . If you're a player you're always looking out for a contract with 30-40 million dollars guaranteed. This means they are set for life in terms of money and some of that money will spill over into their child's lives. No matter how much you think so, you cannot live off 1 million dollars your entire life. On average I believe a person makes about 4 million dollars working in their lifetime. You can't blame the players one bit. If you're mad at anything, hate the system.

All im saying is he signed a deal for a certain amount of guaranteed money as a part of his rookie deal. Would it have been fair to get x amount of guaranteed money from the jets and be a bust? That wouldn't have been very fair i don't think. So he signed the deal, got his guaranteed money.

Has he outperformed his deal. Yes, does he deserve more money. I would say yes, but to me, the fact he still has 4 years left on his deal is a big deal. The NFL front office people cannot let him get away with this. Its a nightmare waiting. If he gets this, whats to stop every player from asking fro a new deal after they have one stellar season? Its Pandoras box

And honestly, 24 is beast, but he was the best last year like Nmandi was best 2 years ago. Whats to say that Champ (just as an example) has a year like Revis had and he takes over as the best CB in the league. Or better yet Chuck Woodson.

He needs the Jets more than the Jets need him. Come Sundays the Jets will have something to do, while Revis will be doing user picks on his 360.
