Good trade for the Bucs. You wouldn't trade a first round pick for Revis? Are you gonna draft a CB as good as Revis?

Comparing Revis to Asomugha on the Eagles is a piss poor bullshit argument that I'm tired of hearing. In 2009 Revis had one of the best cover seasons for a corner in a very long time. Revis has proven he can be thrown at over 100 times in a season and pretty much shut down opposing receivers.

According to PFF on the 2011 Jets, a team with a shitty pass rush, Revis did this:

Receptions: 35
Completion %: 41.2
TD's allowed: 1
INT's: 4

QB's had a 45.6 rating when throwing at Revis. He did this while covering an opponents BEST receiver.

You're telling me he can't do anymore than just "contain" a teams best receiver? W2B and others with similar opinions are flat out wrong. Revis is the best CB a lot of you will have the privilege to ever watch. If his physical checks out you pull the trigger without a seconds thought.

Personally I think Mark Dominick did a masterful job.

He's a 28-year old who plays a position predicated on speed, agility, & sharp cuts, who will be playing on a rebuilt knee.

I'm drafting a 20 year old (any position) with my first round pick and keeping my fourth rounder.

Also, it's not just a direct comparison to Asomugha. The Eagles acquired three "elite" CB's that offseason, and proceeded to get shredded through the air anyway for the next two years.

Reasonable minds can differ on this, but in the fickle world of NFL finances, where you routinely cut 20% of the roster each offseason for cap reasons, i'm sure as shit not wasting my resources on the CB position in the modern league climate. Even 2009 Revis.

And that was four years ago when he was 24 years old and didn't have major ACL surgery to his knee. I can think of two CB's who were once very solid options to their team and now are out of the league because of it: Dominique Foxworth (has had like 3+ surgeries since I believe before retiring) and Al Harris (became slow, useless for us and tore another ACL in the process). Before that? Both great options at corner.

It's hard to justify CB's that type of elite QB money.

Rex maybe one of the few defensive guys that can have a solid to good defense without a dominant pass rusher. The years Revis has been elite, the defense has been predicated on scheme and crazy blitzes to generate pressure and having Revis/Cro (one of the top duo's the past few years).

Last year the defense was pretty stout against the pass with Cro, Wilson, I.Trufant, etc at CB...so having Revis almost became a luxury, ESPECIALLY with the major holes on this team.

The emergence of Mo Wilk and Coples will give the Jets that pass rush, and whoever we bring in at 9 or 13. That will make our secondary even better, when you have guys who can rush the passer. Sad to see Revis go, but in order for this team to be better in the long term, this had to be done.

It's beyond being a pass happy league. In the grand scheme DB's are powerless to stop the passing games in today's NFL. Bargain basement is the way to go with DB's, especially corners. It's the last position I would spend resources on.

If you want to combat the passing game these days, it begins and ends with pass rush imo. Forget trying to cover anybody with these rules and these schemes. Find two cheap corners who are basically average, and hope you can get to the QB on a consistent basis.

Not saying you're wrong, because they are all valid points. But for the Bucs, they have 2 1st rounds picks on their line. They might be OK there.

We are more than likely disagree, that's fine. IMO though, the value of Revis is far better than any first round pick out there. I'll always choose the all pro over the unproven rookie. I saw that Revis' contract is kinda quirky and not guaranteed. So money won't be an issue.

I just think that Tampa is done with their rebuild. Now they are at the point where something or someone is needed to put them over the top. Maybe I'm overrating TB as a whole. But I'm cool with this.

People really overstate the "pass rush is everything" angle. Trying to act like the Giants won the Super Bowl with a couple of scrubs playing outside. Webster was god awful last year but had a pretty good 2011. A corner who has the ability to eliminate a team's top receiving target is still a plus for any defense.

And Revis' game has never been about being the fastest or most agile, so I don't see the knee or his age (lol @ 27 being "old" all of a sudden) being an issue.

Bottom line is seemingly all parties came away from this trade happy. All that really matters at this time.

He's getting the 16 million for this first year. If he stays for a second (which I doubt when he underperforms his contract this year) he'll get the next set of money. It's still 8+ million too much. At this point, can you consider him an all-pro after his ACL injury? You're getting a CB with just as many question marks as a first round CB at this point.
