Kane & Toews Very close to signing extensions with hawks

Well it looks like NHL10 got this one wrong. Chicago is very close to signing the two to contract extensions.

8 years is what is being thrown down. No money figure yet.

Looking at their team they still have to sign guys like Ladd, Eager and Duncan Keith still as they will all be restricted free agents next year.

John Madden's contract is up at the end of the year and he's making 2.6mil so thats a bit of a help.

This could turn into a boston situation by the end of the year.

you never know.....if they worked with both of them together it might not be as bad as people expect (me included).

you sit them both down, explain that they can have immense success, be hockey heroes on a long running top franchise.....if they both are willling to accept similar but not top end deals.

on the open market these two could probably reach as high as 6.5...maybe 7M per season.

but if they decide that they want to win, play together and make some history in chicago....by accepting say....5M each? Which is still a ton of money....then it could work out alright.

Even at 5M each, the Hawks would be 2-4M shy of the cap next season, with 3 Forwards, 2 Dmen and 1 goalie to fill......so something would still have to give.

I'd imagine Sharp and his 4M will move in the offseason for picks and give Chicago the space to fill out their roster, keepin the core in tact.

The Blackhawks are playing a very risky game. Signing Hossa was probably one star player too many, although the biggest issue is Huet who is not going to be and never has been worth $5m per year. They'd be mad to let Duncan Keith go.

I'd say Brian Campbell should already have his bags packed because he's going at some point.

This is great news for now....Sharp will probably be traded..when Hossa comes back that is going to make either Ladd, Sharp, or Versteeg as the odd man out. I expect one of them to be traded.

Campbell + Huets contracts are hot garbage, id love to see one of them traded but i dont see anyone taking on those shit contracts.

Campbell is overpaid but he is a fantastic skater and passer. This is what a lot of teams need to get over the hump so I wouldn't be shocked at all if someone took him.

Duncan Keith is said to be getting an extension that is complicated as shit. Some 13 year deal bs worth around 5.75 mil a year on the cap.

They will need to roughly free up 15mil now for next season if all this goes through.

So you move somebody else. NHL trading is as you know highly flexible. Columbus I think would be very interested in Brian Campbell and could move a guy like Tyutin to make room.

As evidenced by the Montreal-New York trade, if you really want to move a guy, you can make it happen. Unless he has a no trade clause ... does Campbell have a no trade clause anyone?

They also are looking at ways to stop the long contracts where the last couple years are only a mil payout as to make players cap value lower over time.

That was started thanks to detroit.

Also there is no guarantee that the cap will even go up next year.

Pfffttttt...Ill admit that i ddint follow the hawks that often, but in my defense until McDonough came over from the Cubbies they were never shown here. Now he has them on CSN and WGN every time they play so its alot easier to watch them.

I also have not missed a game this year, and if they arent on TV i find a stream online.
