Kane & Toews Very close to signing extensions with hawks

Honestly, everyone else is basically tradeable on the Hawks team if it means signing Towes and Kane. These guys are like the Malkin/Crosby of the penguins. You will find other people down the road to play with them, and sure you got a lot of young talent, but that is what happens when you sign them to high contracts and get big names. Hossa fucked them hard and they should have never signed him.

I highly doubt the Hawks will just let either of these guys walk, so you know they are staying. It just matters with who else is leaving.

Campbell is overpaid but he is a fantastic skater and passer. This is what a lot of teams need to get over the hump so I wouldn't be shocked at all if someone took him.

Nobody is taking 7 million on a 4-5M defender....because....

There is going to be some major work done.

Apparantly the NHL is keeping an eye on this. Things like they can announce they are willing to sign the contracts but can't actually do it till the team gets under the cap. They also are looking at ways to stop the long contracts where the last couple years are only a mil payout as to make players cap value lower over time.

That was started thanks to detroit.

Also there is no guarantee that the cap will even go up next year.

I read a week or so ago about the Hawks/Leafs talking about Tomas Kaberle, not sure if this is the same deal or something different.

I usually get them through twitter then it makes it way onto the internet somewhere.

There's no way the hawks would be getting Kaberle at this point.

The nhl has basically said they can't announce the signings of kane, toews and so on until they get into a better cap position for next year.

Next years cap number is all over the place. Some think its going up and some think its going down. The hawks are in a brutal situation considering they would be close to 15mil over the cap at this years cap # next year with the signings. They are trying to protect the team from the NHL taking over next year if they can't get the team under the cap.

6.3mil per season is really high to be honest. Most were expecting a lot lower.

Sopel or Baker are the names getting tossed around.

Sopel to Leafs and Barker and Sopel to Columbus are the rumours right now.

And they're signed!

The Chicago Blackhawks have announce the signings of Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews and Duncan Keith to multi-year contract extensions.

Toews and Kane signed identical five-year contract extensions worth about $6.3 million per season. Meanwhile, Keith's deal is worth $72 million spread over a whopping 13 years at an annual average of $5.5 million.

The Hawks currently sit just over $1.17 million under the NHL's mandated salary cap.

''Today is another great day in our franchise's decorated history,'' Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman said. ''We've said all along that the plan was to keep our core together for a long time and Jonathan, Duncan and Patrick are a major part of that. This is a large step toward setting the Blackhawks up for long-term success as an organization.''

With all three players locked up long-term, the Blackhawks will likely be forced to make a trade or waive a player to free up 'tagging' cap space for next season. Names rumoured to be on the move include defencemen Brent Sopel and Cam Barker, with the Toronto Maple Leafs reportedly showing interest.

Lets see if they trade sopel and company now or make a run at the cup and try and dish them off in the offseason. Word is Sopel is gone soon though.
