Signing Garrard doesn't make any sense and Garrard doesn't want to be a stopgap anyways.

This season isn't going anywhere. The Colts defense is designed to play with a lead. Their offense is meant to rely heavily on Peyton Manning. So who cares? Colts are a 4-12 football team this year.

It's pretty easy to learn a playbook in 2 days. Only took him 9 years to learn half of what the Jags were doing.

I agree with dave... No David Garrard isn't all-pro.. hence why he's still a FA to begin with. But he'd be a hell of a lot better than Collins.*

Admittedly, I'm not glued to the TV when the Jags play, but was he really that bad?

Cam Newton got the playbook on draft day in April. This isn't Madden, no player can come in on a Friday and can play on Sunday. Colts have a player in Painter who has been studying this system for 3 years, they have a better chance with him than grabbing a guy off the golf course and just hoping he can blindly run plays.

And when is Garrard caught up to speed and ready to go? By then the Colts could be 0-4. Colts should just accept the fact that they aren't that good without Manning and move on with the top draft pick they are going to receive because of it. Actually, I'm pretty sure that's what they are doing and you are the only one going against it.

Oh boy, that's something I'd love to see. I could live a year without Tom Brady, but a year without Peyton Manning just fucking blows. This Colts offense is just flat out horrible without him. They can't convert on third down, they can't gain any yards, they can't stay on the field long enough for the defense, and they sure as hell can't score. I've never seen a team so drastically crumble apart since the '98 Bulls pretty much chucked the deuce and left Chicago.

And we can all see how that turned out. They signed an old man off the street, and as predicted, he has played no better than the two bums they already had. They could have been taking an extended look at Painter or Orlovsky this entire time.

Garrard would do nothing for this team, they are still going to be terrible until Manning comes back. Collins was no upgrade. Garrard would be a minimal upgrade, because he'd have to sit a few weeks, and even then would not have a full grasp of the offense. Plus, let's not forget he lost his job to Luke McCown, so he isn't very good anyway. And like Obst mentioned, they'd be 0-4 before he even took a snap. Pointless.

In hindsight, Collins should have come in as a backup, just in case Painter was as bad as we all think he is. This way, if you had to go to Collins to bail you out, he would have had a solid two months of learning his surroundings and get into shape, instead of being thrown to the wolves two weeks after sipping drinks on a beach somewhere.

They signed Collins because of his previous experience with multiple people on the coaching staff as well as with Bill Polian

Collins had full participation in practice today. Local sports radio is still reeling about how to handle this situation. Suck for Luck has become a frequent saying though.
