Kimbo Slice Prove's he belongs in the UFC

Slice won a unanimous decision over Houston (The Assassin) Alexander, proving his time training at American Top Team was paying dividends as he demonstrated some wrestling skills and signs of a ground game.

"I'm still working on it ... it's not easy," Slice said.

The fight at The Palms was expected to be a slugfest but Alexander had different plans. He circled Slice for most of the first two rounds, looking to chop away at Slice's lead leg with kicks while avoiding his power.

When Slice did chase him down, he managed to make him pay. Slice took him down several times in the second round, including once via a monster slam. He mounted Alexander and took his back, but could not finish him.

A tired-looking Alexander was not moving as quickly as the third round opened and seemed to be reverting to his former stand-and-throw style. Midway through the round, Alexander scythed Slice to the ground with a leg kick but Slice got up and took Alexander down again.

The judges scored it 29-28, 29-28, 30-27 for the 35-year-old Slice.

Now I don't claim to be an expert on MMA like Crimson, Rob and the gang, but while he did win that fight, I don't know if I'd say that fight proved he belongs. Frankly, that was a horrible fight as far as I'm concerned. There were maybe 4 punches in the first round that landed, the second had a few takedowns and one incredible (without a doubt incredible) slam by Kimbo, but the slam aside, I saw nothing that made me say to myself "Wow, Kimbo has arrived."

He had his moments, but he still looked green and still needs to work on his cardio.

He did fine. Like it or not Alexanders a guy that KOd some big names and has a good amount of experience.
Kimbo manhandled him was never in danger and showed major improvement in the clinch and ground game.

Hes not winning any belts but he doesnt seem to be the flash in the pan no skill schlub exc and tuf showcased.

Slice belongs as long as he doesn't fight a serious fighter with a ground game.

Your not looking at what this fight does for his career, it shows that the right weight class for Kimbo to fight in is the light heavy weight. And in that class being a good stand up fighter isn't that bad. Dana White isn't a fool, you give Kimbo fights that he has a fighters chance to win plus it builds his record with quality wins. Like in a year or so a fight with Chuck Lidell would be a Great Fight.

In a year or so Chuck wont be fighting anymore. He's fighting Tito again after TUF 11 and thats probably going to be it for him. Besides, Chuck probably wouldnt take a fight against Kimbo, he has nothing to gain from it and a lot to lose. He doesnt want to go up against guys that are primarily strikers, his style is built to beat pure wrestlers...like Tito, Coleman, Randleman, Couture, Babalu and just about everyone else that was a top 205er during the majority of his career. He doesnt match up well with any of the top 15 or so LHWs in the UFC.

He surprised the hell out of me, I thought he'd win because striking wise he is one of the deadliest. He did show signs of a decent ground game and wrestling.

Take it with a grain of salt though cuz Houston Alexander isn't even close to being the biggest 205 fighter. So throwing him around and holding him down is no biggy.

what is he gonna do though? fight at catchweights the rest of his career or go up to HW? theres no chance he can cut down to 205, he struggled making it to 215.

My guess is that they could give him Pat Barry next, but Barry will just chop him the fuck down. I also think he'd be better off at 205, but Kimbo seems adamant about staying at HW.

There are still knowledgeable fans about the sport and just because they don't get paid to analyze 'UFC' or don't have a blog should not make their opinions any less valid. Maggie Hendricks and Kevin Iole contribute to Yahoo's UFC page and they are some of the worst and most biased 'analysts' out there.

from a a guy who doesnt know much but will a PPV here and there, Kimbo sucks. WTF did i watch last nite? 1st round fool just circles the guy doesnt cut off the rung or attack or anything he just follows him in circles. 2nd round he gets 1 slam and flurry of wild bar room haymaker punches. 2nd round was cool, kinda.

Dana White brings in guys like Junie Browning, his cousins, etc...he also said that Kimbo would have to 'go through' TUF, so I guess that means lose your first fight and you're good to go, lol
