I'm starting to think that some of the roadblocks in his contract negotiations may have something to do with the Olympics and the new CBA coming up.

As a Devils fan part of me wants him to stay but the rational fan in me just wants him to go since he clearly doesnt want to be in Jersey and we have bigger issues then Ilya Kovalchuk.

Yes, he's a great player, but if the NHL got as much publicity as the NBA, this would be like a LeBron James fiasco x100. He needs to walk away with his tail in between his legs back to the KHL.

I don't really mind Kovalchuk waiting this long but it would be nice to talk about something. One thing that pisses me off though is the fact that the rest of the FA wingers are waiting so their price tag gets jacked up because they are the best player available.

I have a conspiracy. Bettman, aka Shakes McGee, saw all the media coverage surrounding NBA and free agency and wanted to cause a stir. It would be a simple task, asking the top FA to be indecisive, to hopefully garner some media attention. Sadly, it turned the wrong way and the reporters stopped covering it all together. Press, albeit bad press, is still press. I wouldn't put it past him.

I think his style of play will help the Kings. If you think about the Devils, they are a very defensive minded team, something Kovy isn't and something that he tried to adapt to, but failed and it also killed his offensive game. The Kings are more of a team that looks to score goals, which is what Kovalchuk loves to do. I don't think they will win the Cup this year and maybe not even next year, but I think 3 or 4 years down the road they will be looked at as a serious threat to win the Cup.

completely disagree with that. In fact come playoff time him and Zubrus were the best two players we had out there and the only two who looked like they were trying. What killed us was our soft as cotton D who couldnt move a puck for the life of them and our best players not showing up, Elias, Parise, and Zajac all went missing down the stretch. Oh and I forgot to mention that sandy vagina we have for a captain.

Well I suppose this season will prove the truth.

Gags is the Flyers. I just hated waiting on a prissy little bitch, like Kovalchuk, to see what the future of my team holds. Also, the Kings are my team of the West, so I wouldn't mind seeing Gagne in Black and Silver. Terry Murray and Dean Lombardi are both from the Flyers system and are running that organization much like the Flyers.

I'm pretty f'ing excited this guy finally made up his mind...and will remain a Devil. The team we had last year and the team we have right now is not the greatest fit for Ilya...but I am excited to see us transition into a team built around him. With Marty on his way out, we've got the next major face of the franchise and even though I love Parise, he doesn't have the same kind of stardust Kovy has.

As long as Kovalchuk is a Devil, I can't see how we don't make the post-season, every season, for at least 6 years. BTW Kings' fans...you're better off w/o the major investment.

I love both deals. If Meszaros can play like he did 2 years ago for half the salary of Kimmo, then hell, I'll take it. We needed somebody to come in and fill the void that was left in the Parent for Hamhuis trade. As for Zherdev, our wing depth was horrible. Giroux and Carter were both playing wing by the end of the playoffs when both are much much better centers. Zherdev can easily end up playing on our first line if Lavvy can de-lazify him. They're both risks, but we heard that Pronger was on the decline and that we overtraded for him and we heard the Briere was past his prime when we signed him to a lucrative deal. I trust Holmgren.
