Tough but this was bound to happen with the minutes he was playing and his age, D'Antoni needed to grow a set of balls and cut down on dudes minutes but seeing how Kobe wanted to play and D'Antoni is looking to keep his job.

Kobe is that team's coach, not D'Antoni. Even D'Antoni knows that. It was a freak injury and had nothing to do with minutes played or age. The NBA is a player, not coach, driven league. If Kobe says "play me,motherfucker" you play him.
I'm not a laker fan really but how anyone could be happy about this is beyond me. A healthy surging laker team would have been great too watch. Also Kobe was playing amazing.
Sucky way to end a season for an all time great player.

Its easy to hate when the game is always rigged in their favor.
I don't wish injury on anyone but honestly, I don't feel bad for Kobe at all. I saw it happen on TV and it was like "welp, I guess all the preferencial calls in the world can't save the LAKESHOW now..."
It'll be interesting to watch how LA fans handle the NBA playoffs, especially if the Clippers manage to make a run and the Lakers are irrelevant.

Hopefully he retires and Dwight leaves and the Lakers become what the Clippers were just a few years ago.
The City of Los Angeles lost two of it's PREMIERE athletes this week. Rough way to start the Weeknd for L.A.
In either case, not sure how many got the opportunity to watch Kobe this season. I know most probably saw the highlights throughout the season but boy did Kobe play HARD all season. I think harder than I have ever seen any Los Angeles Superstar play a sport. He truly sold out this season. Played hard, played strong, played with passion.

You must have missed the part where the Lakers are fighting to even make the playoffs, because of the situation they put themselves in he has to play a lot of minutes. For sure D'Antoni is trying to keep his job because if the miss the playoffs he is out.

There were three total times Kobe went down in this game, 2 before final injury. The first injury he was down holding his knee in pain. I thought that one might have been bad even posted that in the chatbox. It just looked bad, but he got up and kept playing noticeably limping. Then there was a 2nd injury to his ankle or foot. I'm like there is no way this guy keeps playing. Again play was stopped and he hobbled and limped and kept playing. He didn't come out for any of those and he was in alot of pain you could see it. I wonder if they had anything to do with the final injury.

It probably could have...maybe compensating and not being able to push off fully on that knee he messed up...it just wore down and the achilles just tore...

Probably because Kobe is an NBA superstar beloved by millions. Given the fact that he is this late in his career it sucks, because we don't have many opportunities to witness his on court greatness.
Lost in all of this is the performances from the GS backcourt......SMH

You must not have been paying attention to ESPN lately, because if you had you would realize that Kobe has "willed" them to be in position to make the playoffs, because he is such a "competitor" and "winner". At this point he has "laid it on the line" and "sacrificed" so much for the "ultimate goal of winning a championship" it is now up to his teammates to continue this "journey" with Kobe coaching and willing from the sideline.
