Lebron in the NFL?

This was on First Take this morning. I am not sure if anyone saw it but I thought it was an interesting topic. If Lebron left basketball and decided to enter the NFL draft where would you select him?

He played WR in high school and was all-state. He is 6'8''-6'9'', 270 pounds and they say he can run a 4.5. Could you take him with the #1 pick?

number 1. With that size and speed he could pretty much play any position n the field besides QB.

With that size and speed nobody would be able to cover him. I feel he would be able to take a hit too. He obviously wouldn't be the fastest guy but his hands would be great and he could jump out of the building.

if he could shed maybe 20 pounds and maybe be playing at about 250lbs, i might actually draft him 1st overall. i voted that i would draft him but not 1st because you just dont know whether he is an NFL player or not. i mean it didnt work out with MJ in the MLB. then again, MJ didnt even make his high school baseball team while lebron was all state at football.

but serioiusly, if he was playing at 6'9" and 250lbs it would probably make him be able to run a sub 4.4 40. i honestly think that they would just throw deep balls to him the whole time so he can catch the jump ball over anyone defending him. kinda like what they did with that track olympian who played for the cowboys whose name i cant remember right now.

I can see if he shed 20 pounds he could run a sub 4.40 but he is ALL muscle. Maybe first overall would be extremely high but if you are the GM to pass on him you are probably losing sleep every night he does great.

Also going from Basketball to Baseball is harder than going from Basketball to Football imo and Lebron was all-state even if it was in high school. I think they said he was ranked as the #2 WR in the state his sophomore year.

He's a basketball player, not a football player. I don't care what he did in high school.

At best, he's Matt Jones - a freakish athlete who would have very little clue what to do on a football field.

If you touted those athletic skills, but said the guy hasn't touched a football in eight to ten years, the guy wouldn't even be drafted period.

Hell, if Usain Bolt declared for this draft, he would be lucky to get picked. He'd certainly get a free agent offer.

Him being an amazing athlete is what would get him drafted high. He probably has exceptional speed, good hands, and everyone knows how high he can jump. I think he would be an exceptional tight end or receiver. Maybe 1st overall is a little high but a gm would sure as hell take a chance on him in the first round though.

Brock Lesnar was a great, great athlete, but simply didn't have the tools to be an NFL player.
Simply being a great athlete isn't enough to make the NFL, you needs the years of practice and technique at the highest levels.

Simply being a great athlete isn't enough to make the NFL, you needs the years of practice and technique at the highest levels.

He has the size, speed, probably hands and the ability to out jump anybody. If they got in the redzone he would come down with every ball. Maybe he wouldn't be a wr but being a TE would definitely not be out of the question.

He would be good for the redzone. As a fulltime receiver though being that tall, then losing 20 pounds he might look a bit linky. I don't think he would last very long.

I don't care what kind of athletic gifts you have, you don't walk onto an NFL team. Period.
I don't deny Lebron's athleticism, but that athleticism would only get him an NFL tryout and that's about it.
And someone already pointed this out earlier - his long legs would be serious targets in football.

Not speaking about you here in particular kman, but people tend to get all gaga over their favourite athletes and think they can do everything.

You can reverse this too - just because you're a great NFL player doesn't mean you could immediately be an impact player in the NBA. It takes years of practice and technique at the highest levels.

Brock Lesnar never played football or was ranked high in high school for football at least i dont think.

If Lebron James didnt choose to go to the NBA then he could of very well of played football at Ohio State. It isnt like Lebron has never played football before. He was ranked very highly in High School.
