Lions not pursuing CB Asomugha

While it seems that every team in the NFL has interest in signing cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha(notes) when such things are allowed again, the Detroit Free Press reports that the free agent shouldn't expect any overtures from the Motor City.

The Detroit Lions have a need at the position but don't expect to be in the market for Asomugha's services, the paper reports. The problem? The price. The paper notes that Asomugha "could command $18 million per year" for whatever team signs him.

The paper notes, though, that adding a cornerback will be a necessity when the free-agent window finally opens after the lockout is lifted. Likely targets are Antonio Cromartie(notes), Johnathan Joseph(notes), or Ike Taylor(notes) "if the price is right," the Free Press reports.

All sports contracts are out of control none more then baseball, but football where guys are getting paralyzed and injured on a regular basis, their contracts blow and arent even gaurenteed. Damn shame

Athletes know the risks and are willing to take them. It's not a shame, they are paid extremely well and make their own choices.

I know they are paid extremely well for playing a game, but whats a shame is paying Chris Bosh 90million and whats he going to do? Turn an ankle. Or py Jason Werth and Carl Craword 150million to hit 210.

LOL, you really don't like Chris Bosh.

I really don't have a problem with how much money these athletes make, because they certainly bring that kind of value to the organizations, but IMO $18 million for a corner is too much....I wouldn't have even given Revis $16 million. I just don't see how a corner is worth that kind of money.
