Los Angeles Angels Of Anaheim

Bobby Abreu was 3-for-4 with a walk and two RBI in a win over the Mariners on Tuesday night.

Abreu got things started for the Angels, singling to score Chone Figgins in the first. He would later double home Maicer Izturis in the sixth. Abreu also stole his 15th base in the win. Owners have to be happy with the stolen bases, the .302 batting average and the .402 on base percentage, but they're still waiting on that elusive first home run.
 
Ervin Santana suffered his first loss of the season on Wednesday night despite allowing just one run over 6 1/3 innings.

He was very strong in his second start back from a partially torn elbow ligament, but Chris Jakubauskas was just a little bit better. Santana gave up just five hits -- the only run scoring on a Ken Griffey Jr. RBI single in the first -- while he walked two and struck out three. He's given up a combined four runs over his first two starts and makes a good play going forward against the White Sox.
 
Bobby Abreu underwent precautionary X-rays on his big toe Wednesday night.

The Angels aren't expecting anything unusual. Abreu injured his toe in the second inning Wednesday and was replaced by Juan Rivera. The X-ray results should be made available by Thursday afternoon
 
Gary Matthews Jr. hit his first home run of the season in a win over the Mariners on Thursday night.

It was a solo shot; Howie Kendrick and Juan Rivera each added one as well, accounting for all three of the Angels' runs in the victory. It took Matthews 87 at-bats to hit his first home run, so it seems he's much more likely to hit eight like he did last year than 18 like he did in 2007.
 
Joe Saunders blanked the Mariners over seven innings on Thursday night to pick up his sixth win as the Angels won 3-0.

Saunders walked three and struck out three while limiting the M's to four singles, and the Angels offense supported him with three solo homers. He's now 6-2 with a 3.17 ERA, and will face the White Sox in his next start
 
Bobby Abreu (toe) isn't likely to be in the starting lineup this weekend.

Abreu suffered the injury on Wednesday night. It's not considered serious, but the Angels have decided to play it safe. "I'm not sure if it happened before I stepped on the base, when I stepped on the base or after I passed it," he said Thursday. "I felt a little pinch between my big toe and second toe. It was hard to go 100%."
 
Vlad is coming back tonight guys, we seem to finally be healthy again. Too bad we have Fuentes closing things out though.
 
Jeff Weaver moved to 4-2 by holding the White Sox to one run on four hits over eight innings on Wednesday night.

The Angels won the game 3-1. He fanned eight and walked two in the win. Weaver didn't allow a hit after the fourth inning. He's now allowed three runs or less in five consecutive starts and has seen his ERA dip to 2.36. He'll face the Blue Jays in his next start.
 
Kelvim Escobar (shoulder) allowed just one hit over six scoreless innings in his rehab start for Single-A Rancho Cucamonga on Wednesday.

He struck out eight and walked none. Escobar is likely to rejoin the Angel rotation after just one more start in the minors. Unless Ervin Santana is returned to the DL, then Matt Palmer could be demoted to make room.
 
How about Abreu's first homerun LOL. I really like the (except when we was with the Yankees) but he hasnt been the same since the homerun derby

Putting Vlad at DH and letting Rivera play is going to help not just this season but down the road. Wasnt it a season or two ago when he went nuts and hit like 20-25 bombs.

Our Catching platoon is fine, we get 250 avg and 30 hrs from them.

Although I hate to say this Vlad is on the downslide (Im a huge Vlady fan) I think we need to fork it over this offseason and get another stick. Im not sure who is a FA, or atleast make a splash in the trade market.
 
shame Im not going to get to see them this year. Im not about to go to Yankee stadium, I missed them in Baltimore already and they arent playing the Phillies again so IM SOL

I love Jason Bay - I know you'll say Im nutz but I dont think the Sox lost much when Manny left, this guy put up numbers in Pittsburg, he's not a distraction, he's a better fielder, and runner. BUT people feared Manny thats why Ortiz had those types of numbers. Im not that impressed if you look over his numbers when he didnt have a bat around him. but thats a whole nother discuss.

Well maybe if the Tigers are out of the hunt come the deadline we trade Morales for him some type deal and then sign him long term. Its going to be interesting this offseason going after a player like that and then what do you do with Figgins.Vlad, lackey
 
yeah I hear what you are saying with figgins, i know he is 31. So then what are saying, put fat ass cabrera back at third, Im afraid he'd go down for a grounder and not get back up. Thats why I was saying Morales in a trade (younger). And please tell me the status of a 10,000,000 OF on our bench. Is Mathews Contract up after this season. PLEASE!!!
 
I just looked over the roster and I knew we had guys on the DL but holy shit.

I like Fernado Rodney as an 8th inning guy or bring in Wagner. There are some guys that are FA. I hate the guy and think he's the biggest cry baby in the game but sign Pedro and let him thow the 7-8th innings
