EA officially announced Madden '25 this morning, moving away from the traditional yearly naming convention and calling out the 25th anniversary of the game's first launch.

EA SPORTS has officially announced Madden NFL 25, launching on August 27. This year's game will feature the Madden NFL 25 name when it launches in August, plus a new fan Cover Vote will pit the NFL's greatest legends against today's hottest stars.

"There's no better way to celebrate and mark the culmination of 25 years of innovation than by naming this year's game Madden NFL 25," said Cam Weber, General Manager of American Football for EA SPORTS. "This year's game will push the boundaries with gameplay and feature innovations that will lay a very strong foundation for the next 25 years of this storied franchise."

The past and the future collide in the newest Madden NFL Cover Vote across ESPN platforms and SportsNation, which will see the old school take on the new school for the historically-significant cover. A bracket of 32 all-time NFL greats will go head-to-head against one another, as will 32 modern NFL superstars, with the winners of each bracket facing off in the final round.

Voting will start on Monday, March 11 on ESPN.com/MaddenVote, and fans can tune into a special edition of SportsNation at 6:00pm EST on ESPN2 for the live unveil of the brackets. Last year, fans cast 20 million votes to name Calvin Johnson, Jr. as the cover athlete of Madden NFL 13 during a special reveal show of SportsNation live from Times Square in New York City.

"It's great to be back with another year of the award-winning Madden NFL Cover Vote for a brand-new game that will be the deepest and most innovative in the history of the franchise when it launches in August," said Anthony Stevenson, Senior Director of Marketing at EA SPORTS. "This year we're posing the ultimate question of who's more deserving; one of the NFL's all-time greats or one of today's hottest players?"

I don't give a shit who's on the cover. Make the game better. Put the options of random run play/pass play/both and man D/zone D/blitz/all, back into practice mode. Make the gameplay more realistic; ie, the D doesn't always know my play and CBs aren't able to cover three receivers at once, or jump upfield faster than my WR's can run.

The NFL recently passed some new rules that go in effect in the upcoming season, and Madden series developer EA Tiburon says it is trying to accomodate them in Madden NFL 25.

The new crown rule, which states that players are not allowed to put their heads down and strike others with the top of their helmet outside of the tackle box, is a controversial one in real life, and it should be interesting to see how Madden NFL 25 implements it.

A spokesperson for EA Sports told us that developer EA Tiburon expects to implement all the new rules in the game (see below for more) – especially the crown rule – and that they are reflected accurately. Given how contact violations like pass interference are often non-existant in the game, it will be interesting to see how the crown-of-helmet rule surfaces during gameplay. We also wonder if it's on a slider for those fans who want to turn it off.

The NFL also abolished the Tom Brady tuck rule, which could tweak how Madden 25 and other titles in the franchise read fumbles versus incomplete passes.

Finally, specific rules regarding the use of replays for coach's challenges was adopted by the league.

Madden NFL 25 comes out for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on August 27.

The crown of the helmet rule could prove difficult to code into the game. I wish EA would pass on it this year.

They should bring franchise/owner mode back. As an option in CCM. Which is what they seem to be doing. Like you posted. Customers wanting franchise back are not moron's. Franchise/owner functionality was removed. Let's see if they do it right adding it back in or F it up.

It's not the point I was making. People clamor for a separate "franchise mode", which is utterly moronic. This mode replaced franchise mode, yes it lacked in "franchise mode" features in the first offering but I don't think anyone needed to write a "wish list" to make these features come back.

I'm sure EA investing heavily into CCM, only to undermine it with a separate franchise mode 3 years later was something a logical person would be thinking.


Big difference between wanting to set hot dog prices, and having two redundant modes.
