It's a damn shame that Biggio fell two votes shy while clowns were giving votes to Jacque Jones, Armando Benitez and JT Snow. Doesn't look good for Biggio next year with Smoltz, Randy and Pedro joining the ballot in addition to holdovers like Piazza and Bagwell.

I think it looks very good for Biggio next year. The numbers game works out to be a little more in his favor, as I see it. 3 guys got elected this year. Of the major new additions next year, I get the sense that only Randy Johnson is looked at as a no-brainer. Pedro and Smoltz should be, but there will be plenty of people not voting for them. We can probably argue about Sheffield, but he has that 'roid stink on him PLUS nobody liked him to begin with, so he's not getting as many votes as he probably should. The only other newcomer even worthy of discussion is Nomar Garciaparra and I can't see him eating up too many votes.

Maybe, but no one has ever gotten that close without getting elected. Besides, he jumped up from 68% last year to 2 votes shy. That's not exactly a general reluctance by baseball HoF standards. And like I said, I don't see the field in '15 as more bloated than this one, but this more sure-fire guys are now off than are coming on.

I agree with Mussina's numbers being better than Glavine's, but Glavine has the sexier numbers: 300 wins, 5 20 win seasons, Cy Young. Plus, he was part of one of the great rotations of all-time. For me, it was pretty much a forgone conclusion that he was going in. Since I was really worried Mussina might actually fall off the ballot, I'll take the 20% for now. Hopefully, he'll get a healthy bump next year, though I still don't expect him to make it. It should happen for him shortly after that.

Let me correct myself. It should have already happened for him, but since I knew it wouldn't, within the next few years won't bother me too much.
