Mariners trade Pineda to Yanks for Montero

Pineda is being described as "close to pitching in the minors." Dude tore his labrum, I can't imagine him coming back like he was before.

Who makes it back to the bigs first? Montero or Pineda?

Love this trade. Pineda is going to be so fucking good on my fantasy team.

Traded Pineda for Kuroda shortly after Pineda got hurt. Kuroda had a great year for me. :smug:

Montero, I think his stint will be brief, I think Pineda comes back in late July

He's done catching, so the hope is that he goes down and learns how to hit again while getting better at 1B so they can finally get rid of Smoak next year.

Yeah it doesn't look good for Montero. Zunino will be the catcher for the Mariners, so Montero will have to battle Smoak for 1B as Morales isn't gonna be moved from DH because he actually gets on base.

I approve of the move to AAA, we have too many worthless hitters in our lineup. Smoak, Ackley, Montero, Ryan...

Hitting .214/.282/.481 in AAA with a 29% K rate and a 6% BB rate. Hasn't walked since April 27.

Both are in the Minors at this time. Hector Noesi(sp?) is still up in the bigs. Who knew.

Obviously not right away, but his ceiling is higher than Montero's and Zunino is a much better catcher. I'm not too worried about Zunino right now, he flew through the minor leagues very quickly.

Setback for Pineda

SAN DIEGO -- And the hits just keep on coming.

Fresh on the heels of the news that Derek Jeter's sore right calf was serious enough to send him to an MRI tube and could land him on the DL, Joe Girardi said that Michael Pineda, who the Yankees had hoped would be able to return to their pitching staff over the second half of the season, would also be having an MRI on his surgically repaired right shoulder after complaining of "stiffness'' after a two-inning stint for AAA Scranton on Saturday.

"You know, I think with what he’s been through, we’re making sure that it’s nothing, but I can’t tell you 100 percent it’s not,'' Girardi said. Pineda will travel to New York to be examined by the Yankees team doctors on Monday.

Acquired in a trade with Seattle for catching prospect Jesus Montero in January 2012, Pineda has yet to pitch an inning for the Yankees. He experienced a mysterious loss of velocity in his first spring training with the club, and complained of shoulder pain after his final spring training start that year. He was found to have suffered a torn shoulder capsule and underwent surgery in March 2012. Pineda has been on an innings limit this year, throwing just 40 innings at various levels of the minor leagues so far. On Saturday, he allowed one hit and two walks in two scoreless innings for Scranton before leaving the game.

"He was built up to where if we needed him at any point, we could use him,'' Girardi said. "I think there was a possibility he was going to be here.''

Asked if a Pineda return was now unlikely due to his shoulder discomfort, Girardi said, "I think you just got to wait to see what the tests show.''
