This is exactly why Mike Mayock is the only person I can listen to with the draft stuff. He never makes shit like this because he knows it's never going to work out in his favor, so he just puts on the tape and projects guys to his own opinion. I think he's the reason for a lot of movement on Kiper's board (Mayock has Ayers as the #1 DE, etc).

Where do you think Mayock got that from?

There are teams out there that think Ayers best football is ahead of him and is the best 43 end in the draft. Mayock gets all of his tips from sources within organizations, similarly to Rich Gosselin. They have sources within organizations, make the calls, get feels for where players are at, and mock accordingly.

Both Kiper and Mayock do their own evaluations, in general...but move guys based on stock...Ayers is an example. They are hearing that a player like Ayers is being considered by teams in that 10-whatever range, and they adjust accordingly.

Let's be honest, it'd be impossible to truly evaluate every eligible player...teams who have tons of resources need to divide up work and even then still miss guys. Kiper and Mayock couldn't POSSIBLY evaluate every player that is draft eligible...they just do the major names, the "top prospects" at each position, some sleepers and the guys they get tips on. Heck, Mayock admits to not watching any game film until players senior season is over. He couldn't possibly evaluate every player by himself in that 4-5 month period.

I agree - NFLN's draft crew (Mayock, Davis, Burmeister, Casserly, Lombardi, Billick etc) are very good at explaining the draft process and breaking down player's. They generally don't go crazy with the mocks and focus more on analysing the players and team strategies.

Sure - but the bottom lin is a guy like Mayock does an excellent job of breaking down the players he's watched. He explains in detail what he feels a players strengths and weaknesses are, and he does mainly from the view of what teams are generally looking from athletes at certain positions in certain schemes based on what the tape shows. I give the guy alot of credit, he was one of the frst "draft experts" last year to raise flags about Darren McFadden and he was bang on about Matt Ryan.

So does Kiper, have you read his draft guide?

You just have to remember, ESPN is about the average joe while NFLN is about the hardcore football fan, therefore allows the freedom to get down and dirty with player evaluations.
