Melo breaking into the top 3?

I heard Van Gundy mention it in game two and some other people have touched on it a little too so i thought i'd throw it out there

People always say its the big 3 (LBJ - Kobe - Wade) then everybody else in terms of talent in the NBA

Is Carmelo Anthony in that top 3 now (making it a 4)?

In game two the commentators said they think he is but do you?

Melo is good, but Lebron, Wade, and Kobe are obviously the captains and floor generals on their teams. I think Chauncey is the guy for the Nuggets, not Melo. Not taking anything away from Melo, he's an amazing player, I just don't know if he's on the big 3's level yet. He has the ability to get their though.

Just my 2 cents.

Not sure Melo can ever be the "floor general" though just because he doesn't handle the ball as much because those guys have PG skills Melo doesn't have.

Melo is one of the best players in the NBA no doubt. I'd rank him up there with Bron Kobe and Wade

He scores. I don't think he can be heralded as much as a leader as the other 3 you've mentioned considering the role Chauncey has on that team. He's definitely up there. Guy can put up points in a hurry.

no, and he's got a ways to go. when melo is at his very best, he appears to warrant being in the conversation, but he only plays at that level every so often (like in the first two rounds of the playoffs, for example, which is why this is coming up)

It was actually game two of the L.A series when they said "Melo deserves to be spoken about in the same manner as the top 3"

On my rankings Carmelo isn't there yet but he could be in a couple of years easily. He already has his scoring down now he just has to work other areas of his game and develop a bit of point guard skills. I think he'll be capable of leading his team when Chauncey leaves though.

Melo is not marketable at all.... Practically no one on that Nuggets team is. Unless it's for like a tattoo parlor ad, or something like that.

Look at LeBron's arms.

Only reason Melo isn't marketable is because he doesn't wanna be. He'd rather be seen in Stop Snitching DVDs than T-Mobile commercials.

And nah Carmelo isn't in the top 3. He's an excellent scorer but he just isn't on the level of Kobe/LeBron/Wade yet. Chauncey Billups trade is best thing that ever happened for him since they finally have a leader on that team.

Here's how I see it:

Top 3 (Extraordinary players): Lebron, Kobe, Wade (in that order). Clearly the best in the league (though a few may argue this). These guys are the complete package.

[Great Players: KG, CP3, Dwight Howard, Melo, Rose, TDuncan etc.; Players who are clearly the best players on their team and are (usually) the faces of their respective franchises. Guys who play well but there's just something missing (different thing for different players).

Good Players:: Chris Bosh, Andre Iguodala (sp?), Ron Artest, Danny Granger (maybe), etc.; Players that perform well on a game-to-game basis, but lack the ability to take over a game at any time.

The Rest of The NBA: The rest of the league.

LMAO @ putting PP above Carmello RIGHT NOW. Maybe for his career accomplishments, sure. But Mello shits on PP at this point of his career.

And everyone else you listed are great defensive players, but those guys cant even come close to touching Mello's offensive game. I wont undersell KG, Duncan or Howard tho.. all world class players.

PP on the other hand.. not better than Mello.

LOL have you watched this series at all? Mello has stepped up his defense tremendously, especially in these playoffs. Its all a matter of will.. when hes willing to put the work in on defense he can be a VERY tough defender, especially for undersized players.

PS: A lot of you guys are overrating Derrick Rose so early in his career. Im not saying he wont get to an elite level, but he aint there yet. Not by a long shot.

How was Melo doing before Chancey got there? Or more importantly where were the leadership skills that have emerged this season before Billups got there? Paul Pierce carried a team with Glen Davis and the corpse of Ray Allen as his secondary options to a game 7 with a team that is looking like they are about to win a title.

Truth be told Melo isn't really doing anything different now that he wasn't doing before Billups. The only real difference is that Melo is doing it on a team that is playing in the Conference Finals, so everyone who doesn't normally pay much attention is taking notice. Melo has been a great player since he entered into the league. Obviously, Billups has made the difference though.

Its funny that you mention Pierce carrying a talentless team, yet you ignore what happened in Boston pre KG/Allen years. Anthony is learning and this is all you can expect, which is what Pierce had to do as well. Besides, that Boston team without KG wasn't as bad as people would like it make it seem.

i didnt know 1 series makes a player. So why are putting wade in this discussion sicne he was outed the first round? Im asking a serious question, how as melos D and passing during the regualr season? I never heard anything about him having nice D or invloving players at all during the reg season. I heard about him scoring 35 in 1 qrtr. I heard Billups being the leader.

not being biased but in his rookie season, he took a the team to the playoffs in the first time in a while, i mean, Nuggets go from #3 pick to playoffs, thats not bad, but then again, i guess lots of teams do that, but that season, they didnt have many good players, beside Nene, Camby, Miller and thats about it i believe

I addressed that earlier.. Pierce was still making conference finals with guy like Walter McCarty, Vitaly Potapenko, Erick Williams, 'Toine, and I don't even know the point guard (Kenny Anderson?). It's not like last year was his first trip to the show, and the teams he played with after those were full out of guys like Telfair, Perkins, Gerald Green etc. Boston was drafting nothing but HS guys there for a second, or at least it seemed that way. Remember Kedrick Brown?? Shoot me now!

Yet he personally never quit, even when Ainge was throwing his name out there in trade rumors and sitting him a couple years ago to tank his way to Greg Oden.

You're right Walker and Pierce did get those teams to the ECF, but I'm not going to mention how bad the east was than. I actually like Pierce and when he's playing at an elite level he's certainly up there with that second group of guys. I'm not sure I'd take him ver Melo' though. IMO you're just giving Melo a hard way to go with your "leadership" argument.
