Mets Trade R.A. Dickey to Toronto in 7-Player Deal, Signs for $25M/2

The Mets appear to be moving closer to trading Cy Young Award winner R.A. Dickey, according to baseball officials familiar with the situation.

Those officials identified the Toronto Blue Jays as the most likely team, with the Texas Rangers and Baltimore Orioles strongly in the mix.

Although it may be too soon to say that Dickey is definitely headed out of town, sources say the pitcher and team have not negotiated since Wednesday and that GM Sandy Alderson has been involved in intense trade discussions on Thursday and Friday.
As of Friday afternoon, the deal did not appear to be done and the exact trade packages were not known.

Joel Sherman tweeted Dickey may not sign an extension with Toronto which could be slowing things.

Andy Martino tweeted indications are Texas would deal Olt and RHP Cody Buckel for Dickey.

Not for one season, and certainly not giving up one of our top prospects for him. I also don't know how Dickey is going to do in the AL East.

I'm all about making moves, but we have to continue to make smart ones. Dealing a whole lot for a 38 year old pitcher for possibly one season of control isn't smart.

Yes but it seems like Dickey's contract demands are pretty team friendly. The Mets look pretty bad for the way they lowballed him. If you want to trade him, that's fine, but don't insult the guy with a Joe Blanton type offer.

No outfielders except Reimold or LJ Hoes, none of whom would be an enticing centerpiece for a deal with Dickey. Orioles strengths are MLB-ready pitching, which is what the Mets actually have more of than other things.

Wheeler won't be up until June, probably. They want him to get more innings at AAA plus the whole arbitration clock deal.

Unless they sign a FA, guys competing for the 5th spot in spring training would include Jeremy Hefner, Jenrry Mejia and Colin McHugh.

The Mets would send Dickey, Josh Thole, and another player to Toronto. Toronto would send Travis d’Arnaud, John Buck, and minor league pitchers Noah Syndergaard or Aaron Sanchez to the Mets

This is not confirmed, RUMOR about what was on the table this morning.

Feeling is if the other TOR prospects are in, the Mets will have to amp up their side.
