Yes you can force them, you give them a draw, if they do nothing you take a point or go the yellow card route and take away money, guys will start fighting once that starts happening

There is a rule about being passive, the refs need to use it, until the refs dont enforce this than it won't change

MMA should be about finishing fights, or at least trying to finish, not all fights can be finished though, there are great decisions though were guys were actually fighting

And1 should have gotten a point taken away against Maia IMO, the ref blew it

This is a thin line IMO.. when we start having to distinguish between who is and isnt really trying to finish fights its going to become tricky. Just because someone didnt try to finish doesnt necessarily mean he didnt deserve to win, this that would turn into a slippery slope IMO.

Pride had it down well in terms of their yellow cards.. that is the only legit way to go about it IMO, or replacing that with immediate point deductions.. its just the refs dont have the balls to call em. Its funny going back to what you said on the Rashad/Tito fight.. and that being the only time we've seen a point deduction in a fight. And that shit happens atleast once a card.. refs are being way too passive towards the fighters.

What is the best way for a wrestler to finish a fight tho? Essentially their sport is based on a points system.. finishing isnt really a factor.

Their sport is, but MMA isn't. They have to adapt to MMA, the entire sport shouldn't adapt to their discipline.

But MMA doesnt require that you finish fights, and wrestling is a part of MMA. So why should the wrestlers be penalized in this regard? Dont get it twisted as me saying I enjoy boring lay and pray nonsense, but it is what it is. Even a lot of active wrestlers arent trying to finish fights, despite staying busy and dominating fights (Sonnen).

The big issue is not so much finishing fights, it's being active and dealing damage. Sonnen might not be close to finishing guys with his ground and pound, but there's no denying that he's always busy, and he's punishing his opponent. So what he does is fine, it's entertaining, and it's not stalling. Holding someone against the cage for minutes is stalling and not advancing the fight in anyway. That's the problem. Same thing with just holding a position on the ground and throwing one or two punches every minute. I don't think anyone is expecting wrestlers to turn into BJJ experts, and everyone isn't going to have KO power, but what people want to see is simply action. That shouldn't be asking for too much no matter what the fighters background is in the realm of MMA.

There needs to be more draws, I know most fans hate it, but some fights are just draws

Also, yellow cards or real point deductions for doing nothing, control with no damage shouldnt be winning

If there is a draw, send it to an extra round.

Refs need to stand'em up more.

Give the wrestlers some leeway of course, as they are using a different strategy for a fight, but there are times when it is obvious they need to be stood up. In that case, stand'em up! I love ground fighting too, but when they clearly aren't fighting, they need to be let up. If it is continued, they should be deducted points.

Judges need to get better and more savvy as well.
