Michael Vick Restructures Contract To One Year

They should've just released him. He's a turnover machine with both fumbles and INT's and he's fragile in an offense where the QB will most likely have some designed runs. I don't see why this is a good idea.

Can't wait to watch Vick shit the bed once again in 2013.
 
Don't understand why he is back. This is a team that needs to rebuild. I was under the assumption they were trying to build something here, not continue to retread players who show flashes of production but who can't stay healthy or show any consistency. I'd rather see them develop new talent.

I think it makes sense, because Kelly runs a special type of system and there really isn't a young guy that they could get that could run the system right now. It is pretty obvious that Vick will probably only be there for a year while the team grooms or finds someone for the future.

What happens when not if Vick has those 4 turnover games? Or when not if Vick is out for an extended amount of time? Everyone deems Vick a "perfect fit" just because he can run and Kelly has a history of an offense with a running QB. Vick hasn't been productive since 2010 so I just don't get why you would want a bum QB just because he runs a 4.4 forty.

Exactly, I've read a bunch of articles about how Kelly thinks that EVERY sack is the QB's fault for not making a quick decision and that he hates turnovers....so why the fuck does he keep Vick around? On another board I think they said that Vick has 48 turnovers in his past 23 games or something crazy like that. Not happy about this, but apparently he was only promised a chance to start so we'll see, next year is probably gonna be a bust anyway.

Kelly probably believes that Vick is the best option right now. All of the things you mentioned probably will happen, but who could they bring in that is a better option? Kelly probably doesn't see anyone in the draft or in FA that he thinks would fit better or that is ready right now. Kelly is a really good coach, so I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Agreed.
And let's not kid ourselves, Vick was playing behind the #31 offensive line last year. With an improved offensive line (Jason Peters and the regulars back), Vick's play will improve.
 
Between the offensive like being so damn bad and a porous QB class, was there any other option? This just seems like a no brainer.

Michael Vick's new one-year deal contains a $3.5 million base salary and a $3.5 million signing bonus.

The key number is the signing bonus because it's guaranteed. The Eagles aren't going to release Vick before the season after guaranteeing him $3.5 million. To bring Vick's one-year deal to $10 million, he's eligible to receive $500,000 in roster bonuses with $31,250 for each game he's on the active game-day roster, $1.5 million if he participates in 90 percent of the offensive snaps, and another $1 million if the Eagles win the Super Bowl and Vick plays in it. All in all, $9 million seems very attainable for Vick in 2013.

You mean when he played behind that line in 2011 and played in 13 games, went 7-6 and threw 14 picks? If that's improving we are in trouble...
 
I don't like the idea of giving Chip Kelly the benefit of the doubt in any way. He has never coached in the NFL before and he has so much to prove. He needs to at least prove something to me first before I can believe he can take someone as injury and turnover proned as Michael Vick and turn him around.
 
Oh Philly fans, paying Bynum 15 million to play a quarter of a season, that's fine. Restructuring an awful contract to a year for 7 mil, outrage.
