Michael Vick Restructures Contract To One Year

Bynum is also considered one of the best centers in the league and has won two championships....Vick on his best day just makes a top 10 Qb and hasnt won dick.....

Not that anyone said they were ok with the Bynum situation, but theres the difference.....

One of the best Centers in the league, who we don't know if will ever be the same again, and I'm really sure his 7 points and 5 rebounds in the playoffs were the driving factors behind the 2009, 2010 championships.

How is it a silly argument? It's the typical Philadelphia fan mindset, our precious Eagles are doing something we think is wrong when in reality Vick fits into Kelly's system and they're getting him for a bargain. Average base salary for a QB: 4 million, Vick's base salary now: 3.5 million.

Given Vicks ball control issues, im not sure giving him the ball more is a great idea. Just because he can run, it doesnt mean he fits into his system.

And its fine if they got him for a bargain, but since i dont pay his salary and i dont think he can play, what he is making is irrelevant to me.

Id rather take my lumps trying to figure out if Foles can play or watching a young QB develop.

The move sort of reminds me with what Jim Harbaugh did with Alex Smith. Before he get there everyone thought Smith was going to be let go, but Harbaugh obviously wanted to use him to keep the team competitive while a younger QB was being developed. IMO Eagles fans should wait it out and see what Kelly does with Vick. What if Vick has another career year like he did in 2010 when everyone thought he was done? I fully expect Kelly to draft a young QB like EJ Manual, but IMO Vick gives them the best chances to win. No longer are these coaches given years of time to develop a QB while the team sucks.....these coaches are expected to win now and for a new head coach having a veteran QB is valuable and gives them once less thing to worry about.
 
How can you cite what Harbaugh did with Alex Smith and compare that to Vick and Kelly? How often does that happen? Vick is a very large part of the reason Andy Reid got fired. In what way does this give Kelly one less thing to worry about? Vick will be out 1/4 of the season, playing injured another 1/4 and meanwhile have turnovers every single game. That seems like an awful lot to worry about. I'd be worried if I were Chip Kelly but I guess the definition of an effective starting QB is different to everyone.

I understand what you are saying and you are making good points, but a precedent has been set in the last year or two. Rookie and first year quarterbacks can win in this league. And they are not all top 5 picks. Im not interested in vick giving us a chance to make the playoffs this year, i want this team to build a foundation that will ultimately win us a super bowl. I tnink trotting Vick out there slows that process...

What other options does he have? He obviously wants to win, so bringing in Dennis Dixon or EJ Manual isn't going to facilitate that. Vick gives him the best option right now to remain competitive while he grooms someone to be the starter. It isn't as if he gave him a multi-year contract, so it is obvious Kelly believes Vick is temporary. I understand the desire for some for the need to move in a totally new direction, but who is a better option to run the system? If Kelly believed Foles was going to be his best option he wouldn't have brought Vick back. Foles will more than likely be traded within the year.

Vick being the starter for a year could be the beginning of building a foundation. There aren't any QB's in this draft as good as RG3, Luck, Tannehill or Wilson and there certainly aren't any FA QB's, which is probably why Kelly has made this decision. Vick ran this sort of offense in the past, so he does have experience with it.

Vick ran this offense 7 years ago when he was in his mid 20s. And he couldn't stay healthy than, hows that going to work out in his 30s? He was just as inconsistent in that offense as he was in any other one.

They could trade for Alex Smith, who would be a perfect compliment to an offense that features Shady McCoy. And while there is no Luck or RG3, I know for a fact that either Nassib, Smith, or Manuel will play next year and outperform Vick.
