Not a huge overpayment for Prust. More than the Rangers could and should have offered certainly, but Montreal won't regret it. I believe Prust can get back into the 10-15 goal level next season and that's above and beyond what he's signed to do.

The Blackhawks added depth and grit to the blue line on Sunday, agreeing to terms with defenseman Sheldon Brookbank on a two-year deal on the first day of free agency. The deal came through just hours after the NHL's signing period began, but the veteran rearguard says he was more than happy to sign when he got the call from Chicago.

The 31-year-old, who describes himself as a steady, not-too-flashy defenseman, set a career-high with 14 points (3G, 11A) in Anaheim last season, pacing the Ducks with a +11 plus/minus rating, while also providing 120 hits and 110 blocked shots. His nearly two minutes per game on the penalty kill in 2011-12 will also prove useful for a Blackhawks team looking to improve in special teams situations.

Veteran defenceman Bryce Salvador has re-signed with the New Jersey Devils on a three-year, $9.5 million deal.

The deal carries an average annual value of $3.16 million.

The 36-year-old's free agent stock rose with his play in the post-season, helping the Devils advance to the Stanley Cup Final before losing to the Los Angeles Kings.

Salvador had just nine assists in 82 regular season games before recording four goals and 14 points in 24 games in the playoffs.

He has 23 goals and 102 points in 692 career regular season games, playing with the Devils and St. Louis Blues. Salvador missed all of the 2010-11 season with a concussion.

The Colorado Avalanche signed restricted free agent defenceman Erik Johnson to a four-year, $15 million contract on Tuesday.

Johnson, 24, scored four goals and 22 assists in 73 games with the Avs in 2011-12.

Originally selected first overall in the 2006 Entry Draft by the St. Louis Blues, the Avs acquired Johnson via trade prior to the 2011 trade deadline. Johnson has scored 27 goals and 100 assists in 298 career NHL games with the Blues and Avalanche.

The New York Rangers have signed forward Taylor Pyatt to a two-year contract worth $3.1 million.

The average annual value of the deal is $1.55 million.

Pyatt, who turn 31 next month, had nine goals and 10 assists in 73 games with the Phoenix Coyotes last season. He was an unrestricted free agent after playing three seasons in Phoenix.

The veteran of 11 NHL seasons will be joining his fifth club. He has also skated for the New York Islanders, Buffalo Sabres, and the Vancouver Canucks.

The native of Thunder Bay, Ontario has 130 goals and 134 assists in 755 NHL contests.

Coyotes lose another, and Pyatt essentially replaces Prust but without the bad contract. Solid move by Sather, but not the splash many expect to happen.

GLENDALE, Ariz. - The Phoenix Coyotes have agreed to a one-year deal with free-agent forward Steve Sullivan worth $1.85 million plus bonuses.

The 37-year-old Sullivan played 79 games with the Pittsburgh Penguins last season, ranking sixth in team scoring with 17 goals and 31 assists.

Sullivan added two goals and four assists in six playoff games.

Coyotes general manager Don Maloney confirmed the deal Wednesday.

"We are very pleased to welcome Steve to the Coyotes," Maloney said in a statement. "Steve is an intelligent player who adds skill to our lineup and will help improve our power play.

"He is a great addition to our roster."

Flyers sign Ruslan Fedotenko (again) and Bruno Gervais. Bringing Ruslan back is decent, still a solid two way player, Gervais I'm reading isn't anything more than a 6-7 depth defensemen.

ST. LOUIS -- The St. Louis Blues have come to terms with restricted free agent David Perron, signing the 24-year-old winger to a four-year, US$15.25 contract on Thursday.

The six-foot, 200-pound winger had 21 goals and 21 assists for 42 points last season. Despite missing 25 regular-season games with concussion problems, the Sherbrooke, Que., native was the second-leading goal scorer and fifth-best point producer on a Blues team that finished second in the Western Conference before falling in the second round of the playoffs.

"We're excited to have David in the fold for the next four years," Blues executive vice president and general manager Doug Armstrong said in a statement. "He made a great comeback by scoring 21 goals in 57 games. We're comfortable with his health, and we're confident that he will continue to build on his offence."

Perron has recorded 74 goals and 99 assists in 292 career games since the Blues drafted him 26th overall in 2007. Prior to that, the winger played his junior hockey with the now-defunct Lewiston Maineiacs of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

The St. Louis Blues have signed unrestricted free agent forward Jamie Langenbrunner to a one-year contract.

The 36-year-old has 17 NHL seasons under his belt, appearing in 1,105 games and amassing 243 goals and 419 assists along with 837 penalty minutes.

"We are excited that Jamie has agreed to stay in St. Louis," executive vice president and general manager Doug Armstrong said. "His professionalism and leadership both on and off the ice are invaluable assets for our club."

A two-time Stanley Cup Champion - with the Stars in 1999 and with the Devils in 2003 - Langenbrunner registered six goals and 18 assists in 70 appearances with the Blues last season.

The St. Louis Blues have agreed to terms with T.J. Oshie on a five-year contract, avoiding salary arbitration with the talented center.

The deal, announced Thursday on the Blues' official website, will pay Oshie an average of $4.175 million per year.

Oshie, 25, had been a restricted free agent before agreeing to the deal. The former first-round draft choice scored 19 goals and had 54 points -- both career highs -- this past season with the Blues.

Oshie has spent his entire four-year career with the Blues, recording 63 goals and 112 assists in 262 games.

CHICAGO -- The Chicago Blackhawks have signed defenseman Michal Rozsival to a one-year contract, the team announced Tuesday.

The deal is worth $2 million, a source told ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun.

Rozsival recorded 13 points, 34 penalty minutes and a plus-8 rating in 54 regular-season games with the Phoenix Coyotes last season.

The 34-year-old Rozsival is known as a good shot-blocker and has 12 years of NHL experience, including seven postseason appearances.

Rozsival was originally selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the fourth round (105th overall) of the 1996 draft and has appeared in 756 career regular-season games.

ARLINGTON, Va. -- The Washington Capitals have signed forward Troy Brouwer to a three-year, $11 million contract extension.

The Capitals said Wednesday that Brouwer will earn $3.6 million during the 2013-14 season, $3.65 million in 2014-15 and $3.75 million in 2015-16.

The 27-year-old Brouwer had 18 goals and 15 assists last season while playing in all 82 regular-season games. He scored two goals with two assists in the playoffs.

The Capitals acquired Brouwer in a trade with the Chicago Blackhawks a year ago. He then signed a two-year, $4.7 million contract with Washington.
