This is the perception people don't seem to get. Beane, while a proponent of stats is not the godsend of statistics in baseball.

He was looking to find value anyway he could to compete... it just so happened at the time ugly, slow, slightly out of shape guys who could slug a lot, get on base frequently and play very mediocre defense were not being valued all that much, so he pounced.

Since then he's went after failed first round picks, built stellar bullpens and even went after defense more recently.
 
This looks pretty cool to me. Is Peter Berg the director? The music sounds very much like Friday Night Lights.
