More Thursday games

I enjoyed football till 2:30am a couple weeks back with the Oakland/SD game. Obviously 11:30EST for a double header is a bit ridiculous, but I wouldnt mind them swapping the Thursday night game for a double header on Sunday night or Monday night with an earlier start time. You'll still get your major network games, still get to "expose all the teams" and all pretty much in prime time.. and you dont have to worry about terrible Thursday games or player safety because of a way too short week.

Aside from the opening week when everyone is amped for action, won't happen. The ratings for that late night game were embarrassing for the NFL. Approximately 2.5 million people watched the game, total, and that includes the local markets for each team that were showing the game on regular channels in addition to NFL Network.

Why do they have football on Thursday?

IMO they should just have them either:

a) on Friday;
b) wait until CFB is over and have them on Saturday.

It will have the same effect with more games on TV but players will get adequate rest.

I would prefer Sunday and 2 games on Monday. Early and late game.

I would rather not watch on Thursday but I end up anyway. Lately I have been watching on my phone while playing GTA.

Someone floated an idea a while back that would solve this problem *and* give the Rog the 18-week season he craves:


Simply make it so that the two teams playing on TNF have their bye the week before. The first week’s matchup wouldn’t count and the last week of the season you could play with too, but the sixteen weeks in the middle would feature all 32 teams.


That way, the TNF teams would have ten days to rest before the game and ten days to rest after it. (A team would play Sunday, October 6th as part of week 5, for instance, then have Sunday the 13th off with a bye in week 6, and then play again Thursday, October 17th, as part of week 7, and then play again Sunday, October 27th as part of week 8.)


I haven’t sussed this out, but it seems like a way to address the legitimate concerns of the players while still maintaining a TNF game each week and stretching the season out for 18 weeks the way the league (and many fans) would like.

I wonder if Netflix would get exclusivity with games, or if the model would be to use netflix like they use Sunday Ticket now.
